@ProfNawangwe :During a special event held in his honour on 27th October 2015, Professor Tumusiime Mutebile said and I quote;

“Uganda has made impressive strides in both the economic and political areas during the last 30 years. We have overcome those painful days of our history and moved on. I am proud to have been associated with the policies that have brought about the restoration of the economy”

@ProfNawangwe :this is the man whose contribution we are gathered here today to celebrate. As his alma mater, Makerere University is extremely proud to host this first of many lectures in commemoration of Professor Tumusiime Mutebile’s legacy.

@ProfNawangwe :Today’s topic “Economic Recovery and Resilience in a post-covid-19 world – the role of Higher Education Institutions” is a timely reminder of the place that institutions such as Makerere hold in the grand scheme of supporting national development priorities.

At the time of formulating the Makerere University Strategic Plan 2020-2030, our environment was characterized by globalization, climate change, high unemployment and the emergence of new communicable and non-communicable diseases.
