The arrival of the M270 MLRS launcher in Ukraine's arsenal is a really big deal.
The M270 was designed as a counter battery reaper, an air defense killer, and like all MLRS, mass death for infantry in the open.👇
1/
The M270 launcher has access to the entire MLRS family of munitions.
2/
As of 2021, over 50,000 GMLRS rockets have been delivered to US and foreign militaries.
3/
A new tail control version of the GMLRS rocket with double the nominal 70km range is about to come into service.
4/
I've talked about the logistical advantages of the US MLRS pod in previous threads.
5/
This Youtube video is time stamped so you can see a M270 rocket pod load/unload evolution.
6/
The predominant GMLRS round available to Ukraine from US/NATO stockpiles is the GMLRS Unitary round.
I've clipped an early 2000's powerpoint slide to give you all a diagram of its construction.
7/
Each GMLRS-Unitary has very sophisticated fuzing built into it for the full array of targets.
o Impact-Delay -- Bunkers/buildings
o Airburst 3 m - Counter battery light armored vehicles
o Airburst 10 m - Infantry in the open. soft vehicles, ADA
o Impact - Anything else

What is hard for the non-intelligence professional to appreciate is how hard it is to run down a M270 for counterbattery.
You can place rocket pods at designated ammo supply points (ASP) ahead of time & camouflage them.
Resupply trucks don't have to be present.
9/
Any flat piece of ground will do with a small security element.
After several fire missions, you can place empty pods in dummy position and by covering the pods with canvas or camo nets. You can create many false ASP to confuse Russian drones.
Add drone jammers or MANPADS
10/
..to your ASP/dummy ASP security elements and you have created fire traps to kill Russian drones.
When @expatua said this 'levels the playing field 'in Donbas.
It was an understatement.😉
