While we celebrate #NationalTechnologyDay, here are some delightful moments that have become history.

12-Sep'96: Indian envoys to UN Prakash Jha & Arundhati Ghose reaffirmed nation's refusal to sign a nuclear test ban treaty. (Observe the body language :-)

Then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's first address to the nation after the successful n-test conducted on 11-May'98, followed by a press statement by the Chief of DRDO Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who supervised Pokharan-II.

What a proud moment for every Indian!

2/

The chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Richard Shelby reacted on "colossal failure of US intelligence in not detecting India's nuclear test".

Media bombard him with uncomfortable questions. 14-May'98 (the next day after the second test in 13May)
3/

If the first test on the 11th May was not enough for the USA to absorb, India successfully conducted another on 13th May 1998.

CNN news coverage on 11th, 12th & 13th May (left to right)

4/

NYT, FPJ coverage and WaPo Op-ed by Victor Gilinsky & Paul Leventhal (President of Nuclear Control Institute) - "India Cheated" :D

US called his ambassador, sanctioned India, embarrassed CIA & then some vent out frustration by writing articles. Overall Full meltdown!
5/

Pakistan then PM Nawaz Sharif was visiting Kazakistan when he got the news of Pokhran-II.

The cry and complaint to the USA were obvious. But India was ready for all these global reactions.

6/

Even the opposition in India couldn't digest it well. All across party lines, issued mixed statements.

CNN took advantage (obviously) and covered it in their series of absorption (left pic)

7/

Then POTUS Bill Clinton urging India to halt the n-program and lecturing some restraint. He warned India had threatened the stability of Asia, addressing the US naval Academy.
22-May'98

Grand salute to all who brought the glorious moment to India by flawless execution of 'Operation Shakti'.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr R Chidambaram, Dr K. Santhanam, Dr Anil Kakodkar, Indian Army & all involved scientists.
