for all those victories. He thinks about the pretty court dancer with slender wrists and delicate ankles that his son is often seen with—kdj, if he remembers right.

Kdj would make a very good reward for yjh. That picky child will definitely be happy with this—

little gift.

Sp begins to bring kdj closer, to prepare to present him as a wife for his son—except kdj is so soft and so pliant under even the most innocent of touches. He’s witty and unafraid, always giving sp a mischievous smile during their time together. When kdj laughs at—

smth sp says—all red cheeked and crescent eyed—the emperor thinks he should reward himself as well.

Kdj will become sp’s new wife—yjh’s stepmother. The dancer will look stunning in the dark colours of the imperial family, body decorated with jewellery as precious as he.

Sp is a wise emperor, but he is also a mortal man.

The war ends and yjh finds them both in bed when he passes by to give his greetings. His words die out at the sight of kdj—the man he has pined after for years and years—contentedly asleep in sp’s arms.

Of course yjh is against this, surely his oh so great father is aware—

of what kdj means to him.

“That is precisely why things are the way they are,” SP says, terribly amused and unrepentant as he cradles kdj’s bare and marked body.

Yjh burns with all the rage cultivated in the war but stays his hand. As he is, he will lose.

Sp may not have raised yjh, but he knows the way his son grits his teeth and tenses his muscles in restrained obstinacy. As a child of his line and of war, sp realises he feels something akin to fondness.

Besides, he is not so ungracious as to leave great deeds unrecognised.

Once yjh stops being petulant, sp will share.
