I spent 8 hours going through ALL developer videos from #WWDC22 to find the coolest shit in iOS 16 that you missed this week

from AR to SharePlay, some of these updates will change how you use your favorite apps, and…

they will open up possibilities that spark a revolution of new apps and experiences

@Apple may have killed a lot of companies with the updates in iOS 16, but like always technological advancements made will create new ones…

let's get to it...

high-resolution AR is here → 4K video at 30fps

shopping apps will have a field day with this one..

this is 2x higher background/object resolution than what you’ve seen so far in AR

at 8K it’s hard to know what’s real, but 4K will fool you too.. can you spot the real plants?🪴

AR location anchors are no longer exclusive to Apple Maps

these bad boys enable you to attach digital capabilities to physical things

see your city through the lens of your friends, a brand, an event?

I don’t know about you but my brain is exploding with ideas 🤯

playing into the TikTok trend of videos being all about someone talking to YOU

the iPhone's cinematic mode introduced last year is now default when capturing faces with “face-driven autofocus”

explains the People albums, and while they might show a square when you tap a face..

camera access while multitasking 🎥

short-form video will never be the same

gameplay will be streamed along with reaction videos on one device

bye-bye video recordings that cancel when you switch app

and FINALLY, apps like Zoom/YouTube will get picture-in-picture mode 😌

identifying a fast-moving tennis ball in a video? 🎾💨

new updates to motion capture make it possible!

this stuff will surface incredible apps using video analysis for sports

and security! what you see in movies when they go through surveillance footage is now in your pocket

SharePlay updates = “ok, cool”😒

but if you look closer they have HUGE impact on apps

it’s not seeing photos friends sent you, it’s listening to Spotify and seeing a little tag: "shared by"

it's Clubhouse’s “invited by” feature for all content, in all apps

let that sink in..

let’s wrap it up with the updates made to Siri and Shortcuts – framed as a Siri command:

“Siri, show me the latest movie releases on Netflix”

Apple didn’t announce a replacement for Google Search, they rather change how you search instead...

oh, one more thing..

you’ll start using App Clips soon

when you open one up in a coffee shop in the fall, you're already logged in to iCloud

install the full app later, and your transaction history/first loyalty card stamp is already there like you had the app all along ☕️

Apple's altering what it means to be present in prep for their AR headset

and content discovery will go from vertical → geographical, just like in the “real world”

it’s the early metaverse, as @ShaanVP put it: “the moment in time where digital matters more to us than physical"
