For those who would like a refresher of where we last left Matenrou:

The chapter opens with Nemu working on her laptop in Chuuouku. Even as the DRB prelims have begun, disturbing things are afoot. A rebellion began in the north, and Honobono was sent to handle the rebels, yet Nemu can turn up no documentation of the event. #hypspoiler

She concludes that she needs to ask Honobono directly to find out anything about it. She places a call to Honobono's office, only to learn that Honobono is out... in Shinjuku. The name rings a bell, and Nemu remembers Honobono giggling sinisterly about Hifumi. #hypspoiler

Nemu has a very bad feeling about this. She pulls her cap on and sets off to report this to Ichijiku.

Ichijiku, however, is not in her office either. She is presently with Otome waiting to receive a very different sort of visitor - none other than Jakurai Jinguuji. #hypspoiler

After exchanging greetings, Otome asks if Jakurai has come before her to give her his answer. (See FP/M+ 9) Jakurai closes his eyes and remembers Hifumi and Doppo smiling at him and warmly telling him that they're sure he can find a way to save both parties. #hypspoiler

Filled with determination, Jakurai opens his eyes and declares that he will cooperate with Chuuouku. Otome is pleased, but before she can gloat, Jakurai adds that he will only help under certain conditions. Ichijiku snaps that he has no right to demand those. #hypspoiler

In that case, Jakurai responds, he simply won't cooperate. Ichijiku yells an expletive at him, but Otome remains calm and asks what these conditions are. First, Jakurai requests to use the True Hypmic once it is perfected. Otome muses that this must be for Yotsutsuji. #hypspoiler

She grants him permission. Jakurai expresses his gratitude and goes on to say - wait, there's more?! Ichijiku's not having it. Jakurai ignores her outburst and, remembering Mozuku and Ramuda's dead clone, insists that all use stops until the True Hypmic is perfected. #hypspoiler

Ichijiku threatens him with the cane she carries and reminds him that he is in no position to make demands. Jakurai ignores the threat and coolly reminds her that he, in turn, will refuse if this request is not granted. #hypspoiler

With Ichijiku's cane held across his throat, Jakurai looks straight at Otome and vows that he will find some way to save Yotsutsuji, no matter how many years or decades it may take. Otome gestures Ichijiku to back off and then grants Jakurai's request. #hypspoiler

Again, Jakurai thanks her, and Otome tells him to await further instructions at a later date. Jakurai leaves respectfully, and Otome likewise bobs her head in acknowledgement as he leaves. But Ichijiku isn't one to bow to any man, and she snarls as she watches him go. #hypspoiler

Meanwhile, Doppo sits on a bench in the park with a cloud of gloom emanating from him. He worked his hardest, but he was fired anyway! Well, it was only a matter of time. He'll never be able to find steady work, and he'll be on the streets by the time he's 40, and - #hypspoiler

The other parkgoers give Doppo some odd looks as he mumbles to himself. But that's not the worst part, Doppo thinks. He remembers how much faith Hifumi and Jakurai had in him and how much they wanted him to be positive. Maybe it's impossible. Maybe he can't change. #hypspoiler

Just then, much to Doppo's horror, a little kid asks his mommy why a middle-aged man is sitting in a park in the middle of the day. The woman shushes her son and tells him he'll end up like that man if he's not a good boy! This sets Doppo off even further. #hypspoiler

EXCEPT! Fuck that noise! Images of newspaper articles dancing in his head ("This random guy I met in the park changed my life!"), Doppo lurches upright and swears he'll SAVE the YOUTH with a GOOD FUTURE ahead of them! (The mom and kid stare.) #hypspoiler

He tightens his tie. He grabs his briefcase. And then he breaks out into a run, because like HELL is he going to be fired for something he has no knowledge of!

Jakurai is leaving Chuuouku when he hears someone call his name. He turns and sees Ichijiku striding up. #hypspoiler

She refuses to tolerate any sort of disobedience, particularly from men like him. She pulls out her mic and raps a typical Ichijiku sort of rap - she subjugates men with the power of her rule, and Jakurai shouldn't forget he's under her and Otome's thumb. #hypspoiler

She's powerful enough that Jakurai grimly determines he needs to fight back in earnest. He pulls out his mic.

Doppo's investigation is well underway. The security footage from the factory and delivery drivers don't show any issues with the so-called faulty machine. #hypspoiler

If only he had a clue of where to go next... He pulls out his phone and, much to his surprise, sees a message there. The message leads him to the hospital and Dr. Yamabushi, the doctor who made the complaint. Dr. Yamabushi doesn't look happy to see him. #hypspoiler

He refuses to talk, but Doppo persists. He lays out his evidence which indicates that the only place the machine could have broken is in the hospital. Then he pulls up the last, damning piece of evidence on his phone. The serial number of the recalled device is NOT - #hypspoiler

- the same as the one that Doppo delivered. Doppo gets right up in the doctor's face and demands to know where the device Doppo brought is. The doctor slumps to the floor, defeated by this proof. Doppo smiles in relief at his phone and the message from his coworker. #hypspoiler

Meanwhile, Jakurai is still battling Ichijiku. He raps about how he won't follow her rules because her rules and thinking are wrong. He argues that the Ramudas (as he imagines several lying dead) are not meant to be used at random. He urges her to reform. #hypspoiler

Ichijiku makes to retaliate, but then a Canceler dissolves their speakers. Nemu appears holding it, and she asks Ichijiku to come back inside, as Otome is calling for her. Ichijiku tells Jakurai that they'll continue this another time and stalks away. #hypspoiler

Before Nemu follows her, she addresses Jakurai. He is surprised to see her and asks if she is Samatoki's little sister. She looks down sadly and then switches the subject. He should go back to Shinjuku ASAP... because Hifumi is in danger. #hypspoiler

Jakurai wastes no time before running as fast as his legs can carry him.

Back at EL Medical, Doppo's coworkers cheer. He cleared his name! Doppo thanks them for their help and apologizes for asking them to look into the serial numbers for him. #hypspoiler

It's no big deal, they say. Besides, they knew Doppo would never do anything this ridiculous. That's right, adds Doppo's schmoozing manager. (Wait, where'd he come from?) He never believed for an instant that the star of the department would do such a thing! #hypspoiler

Oh yeah? What happened to all that bleepity-bleep of a bleep language from last chapter, huh? The manager puts his hands on Doppo's shoulder and chuckles. Just a little joke of upper management, m'boy! Doppo shrugs him off, stands up, and asks if he might have a word. #hypspoiler

Doppo clears his throat and then... lays into the bitch! Baldy is an utter failure of a manager, constantly stealing credit and shifting blame. Forget being a good employee. He needs to work on being a good human being first! The manager runs off in almost tears. #hypspoiler

Doppo looks a bit sheepish, but his coworkers are like "EYY LMAOOOOO, THAT'S OUR BOY" as coworkers do. However, their celebration is interrupted by Doppo's phone ringing. Huh? Why's Jakurai calling? Jakurai is panicked, and he tells Doppo to hurry. Because Hifumi is-! #hypspoiler

Doppo's world stands still for a moment. Then he dashes away as fast as he can. His coworkers ask where he's going, but he yells only, "Sorry! See you later!" He sprints to Fragrance in desperation, but it's too late, as a pair of high heels clack over the threshold. #hypspoiler

The chapter ends, to be continued next month, as Honobono giggles at the sight of Hifumi. #hypspoiler
