It turns out that this method is quite effective at generating broad immune responses against HlV, a potential breakthrough.
Everyone from NIH, Los Alamos, China, the WIV, Oxford...has been researching in this domain.
Some formulations had as few as 4 conserved segments

It appears somebody has been a really bad watchmaker, though.
Every study I've seen has incl. certain elements, but I never found one that forgot to remove the bit from ~363 to ~391

There've been 2 major research tracks in HlV vx design post-2000:

A) triggering BnAb's [broadly neutralizing antibodies]
B) conserved epitopes and/or regions

As LANL's Korber shows us [she & Fauci literally wrote the book on the HlV numbering system], FCS is always nixed

SARS-CoV-2 is truly unique, however.

The Indian pre-print was nuked because it pointed to the oddity of the inserts.
The pseudovirus template COULDN'T have been missed by the VRC;
Its existence in a SARS-CoV, however, stands out.
