#BB24 #Accessibility 🧵
We demanded that CBS be inclusive with casting, now let’s demand inclusivity on BBTwitter so we can all enjoy the mess! Blind, Deaf, Low Vision, and Neurodivergent fans deserve access to all the BB live feed media that we share around every season. 1/
I’m calling on the the leaders of the BB fan community (alumni, podcasters, update accounts, meme accounts, fans with >1K followings) to commit to making their content accessible and encourage everyone to do the same. It’s 2022. It’s time. 2/
BBTwitter often feels like a race to the post/punchline/meme, but I promise 30 extra seconds to make your media accessible won’t kill you. It takes moments to add alt text, call a caption bot, or even add captions yourself, and now everyone gets to be in on it! Best practices: 3/
Alt Text
Alt Text is an image/gif description for Blind or Low Vision people using Screen Readers. Twitter now shows ALT tags in the corner for anyone. **Keep it brief while still descriptive** What is important about the image? How does it relate to your tweet? See examples: 4/

When tweeting from a browser, click "Add Description" under a photo/gif to type your alt text. If tweeting from the app, tap the +Alt or Paintbrush icon to find the text entry box. 7/
“I forgot to add alt text again 😩”
It’s OK! Reply to your photo or gif tweet so the text is underneath it, no need to delete.
Also, follow @/AltTxtReminder for an automatic DM every time you forget to add Alt Text.
It will become a habit and go much faster the more you do it! 8/
Captions
Captions are crucial for keeping Deaf and Hard of Hearing fans up on video content (endless during BB season!) Reply to your video with “@/HeadlinerClip caption” to call an auto-caption bot. *NOTE: AUTO-CAPS SUCK* especially deciphering whispers or overlapping voices. 9/
It’s better, free, and EASY, to add your own Captions. Kapwing.com allows you to add/edit captions from any comp or phone browser, or I use the MixCaptions app on iOS/Mac. Replying with a tweet transcript works, too. At the VERY VERY least, type out the key quotes 10/
Camel Case Hashtags
Camel case hashtags help Screen Readers (and humans!) differentiate separate words in a hashtag. Capitalize the first letter of each word. For instance, #TodrickExposedParty NOT #todrickexposedparty 11/
If anyone, particularly from the disabled community, has any additions or corrections, please let me know! Let’s have a fantastic, #Accessible season 😁 12/12
