#VéloTrainEurope2022 Jour 18:
Traversée de l' 🇩🇪 !
- Tour de Hambourg à 🚴♀️, entre lacs et ports
- Long trajet (700km) jusqu'à Stuttgart en ICE🚄
- Vélo à Stuttgart et ascension de 200 m en Zacke, le métro à crémaillère !
Thread en anglais ⤵️
Since the ICE only leaves at 1pm, it leaves time for a bike tour of Hamburg! 😍
🚴♀️ In 2015 I had already "toured" the city by bike... at full speed during the triathlon.
🐌 So this time I take it slow near the inner lakes and harbor! (...)
The city is very bike-friendly:
- the streets all around the Binnenalster and Aussenalster lakes give priority to bikes,
- everywhere the bike paths painted in red make it very easy to find one's way, even near traffic-heavy streets.
Then comes the ICE trip. 🚄
- Bike reservation is mandatory, there are 8 numbered slots at the end of each train, incl. 4 vertical slots.
- Location of bike car is mentioned on the platform
- Staff is there to help boarding, and there are seats nearby open to reservation. (...)
Once in Stuttgart, getting out of HBf takes a while bc of #Stuttgart21 construction works.
- there are 3 ramps, accessible but very long !
- then it's tricky to find a path w/o stairs across the city...
- however, there are many more bike streets than in 2015 👍 @adfc_stuttgart
The end goal ofthe day is in Möhringen, at 200 m elevation from city centre.
It's a very steep climb 🚲🌄😱
Fortunately there is an alternative: the Zacke, the rack & pinion metro from Marienplatz to Degerloch, that offers to carry bikes up (but not down...) in 15 min !
The bike fastening pole is not great: at arrival the bike is tilted but is still on the rack 😅
After 3 extra km by bike, i arrive sweat-free at destination, for a good 😴
