While I was interacting with students yesterday, through direct DM, many have asked me regarding economics. It seems like many are scared of economics.
Hence decided to write a thread on economics 🧵🧵
How to approach economics for UPSC ? How to make economics our strength ?
1. Incase you have joined coaching, focus more on economics classes.
You can study Polity, History etc from books. But for economics, classes are important. Classes are important to learn basic concepts of economics.
2. Incase you have not joined any coaching, you can watch Mrunal sir or any other faculty videos on economics. Get your basic concepts like Depreciation, appreciation, Bank rates, BOP, inflation, fiscal policy etc... very clear.
Once you get basics right you become unstoppable.
3. Make notes from the classes you attend.
You need to make notes and revise them regularly. Only through multiple revisions you can ace the concepts. Making your own notes is best way to revise basic concepts.
4. Have one reference book for subject.
Keep one source, it can be Ramesh Singh, Sriram IAS material, Mrunal Sir notes etc. Just pick up one. No need to waste time on reading multiple books. Keep revising the same book multiple times.
5. Then ? Economics mock tests for Prelims.
Give as many mock tests as possible. Check your conceptual understanding of subject.
Find new concepts which are not covered in classes, books in the mock tests ? Add it to your notes. It increases your coverage of the subject.
6. Economics for mains, GS-3.
For economics, mains section need special attention. Few topics which are not given much weightage in Prelims, becomes important for mains.
Try to have your own notes on each topic given in mains syllabus.
7. Sources to make notes for mains economics section ?
Mains economics section topics are generally not covered in standard books and classes.
Use Vision IAS mains 365 & Mock test solutions of past 3 years, to make notes on each topic given in syllabus.
8. Practise answer writing for mains.
Write answers daily, give mock tests regularly. To ace mains you need to ace answer writing.
With these steps you can ace economics, making it your strength area of UPSC.
