🧵UEFA Ranking history
Time to go back in time. This thread shows the football teams who collected the most points for the UEFA country ranking since season 1955/56, in the last 67 years (!)
First the overall ranking, then I'll provide the stats for the big nations 👇👇👇
OVERALL RANKING
Real Madrid has clearly been the most successful football club in the last 67 years.
Over 150 points collected overall, this is insane.
Bayern and Benfica complete the podium. Also in top 10: Manchester United, Barca, Juventus, Ajax, Porto, Milan, Dynamo Kyiv
1. 🇪🇸ESP: 469 points
Spain has clearly been the most successful football nation in the last 67 years.
Shining beacon is Real Madrid, but FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid did also contribute their fair share.
2. 🏴ENG: 412 points
Premier League comes second, with Manchester United contributing most to the overall score.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur all did their part.
Overall, 25 teams made it on the list
3. 🇮🇹ITA: 378 points
Third most successful nation in the last 67 years has been Italy.
Juventus and Milan carrying the heavy load, followed by Inter, AS Roma, Napoli, Fiorentina and Lazio.
4. 🇩🇪GER: 337 points
4th overall place for Germany. And as you guessed, it's all about Bayern. Second comes BVB, followed by Leverkusen and Schalke.
Frankfurt actually made it to top 5 (!). 24 teams overall, really an interesting mix.
5. 🇫🇷FRA: 279 points
PSG did just recently overtake Olympique Lyonnais as the most successful team in France. Olympique Marseille and Stade de Reims also high in the ranking, mostly due to their glorious past.
6. 🇵🇹POR: 268 points
Benfica on top in Portugal, followed by Porto and Sporting.
After those 3, there is a huge gap. Braga the most successful club outside the big 3, the other clubs barely scored in the last 67 years.
7. 🇳🇱NED: 229 points
The Netherlands are the 7th most successful football nation in the last 67 years, mainly thanks to Ajax and PSV.
Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar also with a decent amount of points scored.
8. 🇧🇪BEL: 174 points
8th place for Belgium. Despite struggling recently, Anderlecht has done the heavy lifting in the past, followed by Standard Liège, Club Brugge, Racing Genk and AA Gent
9. 🏴SCO: 157 points
Scotland is the 9th most successful football nation in the last 67 years, impressive!
And of course it's all about Celtic and Rangers who did so well internationally.
Huge gap after, with Hibernian and Aberdeen making little noise

10. 🇹🇷TUR: 157 points
Turkey also made it into top 10 of the most successful football nations.
Galatasaray has been the most successful club in the last 67 years, followed by Fenerbahçe and Besiktas. Trabzonspor also with a decent amount of points.

11. 🇦🇹AUT: 155 points
11th place for our neighbours in Austria.
And believe it or not, it was not Salzburg who did contribute the most points, but Rapid Wien. Austria Wien comes third.
Wiener Sportclub had a glorious past, they are ranked above Sturm and LASK
#RapidWien
12. 🇬🇷GRE: 140 points
The recently struggling football nation of Greece comes 12th.
Olympiakos Piraeus and Panathinaikos doing the heavy lifting in the last 67 years, followed by PAOK and AEK.

13. 🇷🇺RUS: 137 points
Plenty of power shifts in Russia lead to the fact that several teams did contribute to their overall 13th place.
Zenit was the most successful club in the last 67 years, followed by Spartak and CSKA Moscow.

14.🇨🇭SUI: 133 points
Finally, Switzerland 😅 Basel doing the heavy load here, followed by YB and FCZ.
GC ranked 4th due to their success in the past, where it was way more difficult to collect points for the overall ranking (less matches).

15. 🇺🇦UKR: 130 points
Ukraine concludes the top 15. And as you have guessed, its all about Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk, who scored almost all of the points in the last 67 years.

That's it for the top 15.

PS. Keep in mind that this list has a recency bias. The reason is simple: Way more matches with the chance to collect points for the UEFA ranking.
Also, there might be some glitches with teams who played for different nations, like the whole Yugoslavia.
PPS. Somebody who actually paid attention in their history lessons surely can explain me why Saarland scored 2 points: 😂
#Sarland #saarbruecken
PPPS. Yes, there was actually a time where FC Vaduz did NOT compete internationally, because USV Eschen-Mauren did win the cup.
They did not score a single point internationally, though 😂
So all 23 points scored by Liechtenstein so far has been the work of Vaduz
#fcvaduz
PPPPS. Some interesting clubs in East Germany at the time.
Like Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt? Never heard of them 🧐
