August 16, 2022 map update for @TheStudyofWar.
- Russian forces recaptured Solodke and Yehorivka in Donetsk. There were previously UA-liberated.
- New Russian claims in north Kharkiv and Donetsk oblast
- We refined the frontline on the Izyum axis.
More details below. 🧵
1. We recoded Solodke, Donetsk Oblast, and the western portion of Stepne, Donetsk Oblast as assessed Russian advances given a Ukrainian General Staff report on August 16 stating Russian forces are conducting offensive and assault operations in the area with “partial success.”
NASA FIRMS data from the past 24 hours additionally observed heat anomalies fires in the rear of Ukrainian-held territory northwest of Solodke, which would be consistent with a Russian advance into Solodke.

2. We recoded Yehorivka, Donetsk Oblast, as assessed Russian advances given footage posted on August 16 reportedly showing elements of Black Sea Fleet’s 810th Naval Infantry Brigade operating in the village.

3. We expanded Russian claims to Odnorobivka, Kharkiv Oblast, given a Rybar map posted on August 16 claiming Russian control over the village. There is no visual evidence supporting this claim. Source: t.me/rybar/37317
4. We expanded Russian claims to the north and south of Siversk, Donetsk Oblast, given Luhansk People’s Republic Ambassador to Russia Rodion Miroshnik’s claim on August 16 that Russian forces surrounded Siversk on three sides. There is no visual evidence to support this...
claim. Miroshnik is also known to wildly exaggerate his territorial claims. Source: t.me/miroshnik_r/83…
5. We expanded Russian claims further west towards Nevelske, Donetsk Oblast, given Russian milblogger Yevgeny Poddubny’s claim on August 16 that Russian forces have advanced towards Nevelske.

6. We removed Russian claims from Pryshyb, Donetsk Oblast, given a Rybar map posted on August 16 depicting Ukrainian forces controlling the village.
Russian sources are seemingly no longer claiming Russian control in this area.

7. We recoded the cumulative Russian advances around Bohorodychne in northern Donetsk Oblast as Ukrainian counterattacks given Ukrainian forces have repelled Russian attacks on Bohorodychne and Russian forces have not yet established control over the village as of August 16.
As always, we will continue to refine our assessment as we collect and verify more information.
