#BabyLWJSeason
after his mother’s death, the only thing that comforts a-zhan is her scarf, a pale blue scarf where she embroidered gentians on the hem of it.
the scarf is his prized possession, something he never lets anyone touch, until he finds someone to share it with
it was a good day, not too bright to make him sweaty, just perfect enough for him to go to the nearby park with his uncle for a walk.
he grabs his mother’s scarf, a clothing too big and his body too small for it but somehow he manages to wrap himself around it.
he walks hand in hand with his uncle to the neighbourhood’s park, a place which has his favourite swing.
“a-zhan is excited to ride the swings?” his uncle asks as they reach the park.
before babyji could reply, he hears a loud scream at a distance.
he turns around to see a boy, dressed in red and black overalls, clinging to the park’s tree as a group of boys surround him.
babyji frowns. uncle has warned him about bad kids and told him to stay away from them, and if possible, report to an adult if they hurt him.
babyji wastes no time and runs towards the group, his mind half reminding him that running is not allowed and that his uncle was calling for him
“stop it” he exclaims as he gets closer, the group of boys looking at him confusedly.
“wanna join us?” a kid with burly eyebrows asks
he hears the red and black overalls kid whimper, pressing himself closer to the tree’s bark at the thought another kid joining the group that’s bullying him.
“look! he’s scared” another kid exclaims, moving forward and babyji sees him holding something in his arms.
a puppy.
normally, babyji wouldn’t be too concerned about puppies, they seem merely harmless, but the other kid must be terrified of them with how his tears won’t seem to stop at the sight of the tiny animal.
‘we must always protect the weak’ he remembers his uncle telling him.
babyji nods to himself, yes, he’ll help this kid.
he walks forward, the terrified kid letting out sobs after sobs that it breaks his heart.
“leave!” he says, a bit louder than he usually prefers to talk.
“huh?” the kids sound puzzled.
“leave! or i’ll call uncle” babyji +
threatens, and prides himself at doing a good job when most of the kids scram away.
the kid holding the puppy doesn’t move, scowl deepening on his face, and babyji couldn’t care less about him.
“it’s okay” he speaks gently to the frightened kid, walking closer to him in +
tiny steps.
patience is the key, babyji tells himself
“scared” the kid mumbles, his face tucked in his arms and babyji feels sad looking at him.
that’s when he gets an idea!
“here!! a-zhan will protect!” he says, unfolding his scarf and covering the kid’s face with it
the scarf has always comforted him and he hopes it does the same to the other as well.
babyji turns around and glares at the mean kid who walks away with a scowl.
he sits down next to the kid, who’s still hiding under the comfort of the scarf, and babyji hums softly.
it takes a while but the dark mop of hair sneaks out of the scarf and oh. he has pretty silver eyes.
“a-zhan” he says, and softly smiles when the kid looks confused.
“a-zhan” he says patting his chest, as an introduction. “you?”
“a-ying” he hears him meekly say
‘a-ying, that’s a nice name’ thinks babyji.
a-ying gradually feels better at the presence of babyji and slowly unfurls himself from the scarf to stutter a quiet thanks with a “gege my hero!” to the other whilst sending a blinding smile that has babyji flushing at the attention
that’s how babyji made a new friend and someone who he was willing to share his prized possession with. after all, a-ying has a special place in his life.
he’ll always have a special place to a-zhan
