Mamajiu doesn't sing, but when he does..
---
Shen Qingqiu had created an image of himself as an untouchable immortal, a figure of grace and strength unparalleled. Many believed him to be fearless; after ridding the world of many demons and
vengeful spirits alike, it was a very easy assumption to make.
Shen Jiu, however, had many fears.
Which was why he stood in front of an orphanage at the dead of night with a newborn in tow.
The child in his arm though swaddled in the softest of blankets began to fuss.
How perceptive his baby is. His son probably knew what he was about to do...which made it a lot more painful
With a trembling hand, he gently carded his fingers through his son's sparse yet downy hair.
It gave both of them little comfort.
His son, his Xiao Yuan as he had come to name the child, was still so very small, so new to the world only to be abandoned by his wretch of a mother.
Was this what Shen Jiu's own mother felt like as they abandoned him as a babe?
Did it gut them to leave him, break their heart beyond repair just as he now feels when he's about to leave his own son.
Whatever the answer was, Shen Jiu knew this was all for the best.
He knew this the very moment that he had found out he was with child.
His son would be better off without him. He just wasn't fit to be a parent.
He was a vile, treacherous, scum of a man. How could he be a parent?
If so, then...why was it so hard to let him go?
His baby started to whimper. It was a small and pathetic sound that wrenched Shen Jiu's shriveled heart.
Without thinking, he hummed a soft tune. It was a song he had probably heard once upon a time. Then, he began to gently rock the baby in his arms and sing.
"Hush now, my baby. Be still, love, don't cry...sleep like you're rocked by the stream..."
Shen Yuan's head turned, attention piqued by the sound of his mother's voice. Unknowingly, Shen Jiu's vision blurred with tears.
His throat felt like it was suddenly stuffed with cotton as he uttered the next line, his voice barely carried by the wind.
"S-Sleep and remember my last lullaby...And I'll be with you when you dream..."
.
.
.
Years later, a young boy came into the sect with an uncanny resemblance to the Qing Jing Peak Lord. He was often found humming a lullaby he could not fully recall...
