✨my top recommendations for astro books ✨
someone asked me if I could compile a list of my favorite astrology books & make a thread, so without further ado…
legends are legends for a reason!!
this book is really *it* if you want to learn hellenistic astrology. you learn more than just concepts and techniques — you also learn about the history and transmission of astrology as a whole. this book is comprehensive & unmissable imo.
Demetra is the GOAT & we owe her eternal gratitude —
these two books are incredible for understanding planetary condition & the houses. volume 1 teaches you how to judge if a planet is capable of producing its significations & volume 2 is an incredible deep-dive on the houses.
another legendary fav of mine —
Planets in Transit is one of the best resources I’ve found on interpreting transits & was something I heavily referenced when I first started writing horoscopes. It even includes transits to the angles & outers, so you get a really complete scope!
When it comes to ancient texts, Dorotheus is one of my favs. He goes in to a variety of different subjects & is a nice introduction to reading older sources.
You’ll get natal *and* electional info in here, so you’ll be exposed to multiple branches of astro as well!
Anthologies by Vettius Valens is probably my all-time favorite ancient source & he’s also the OG for information about zodiacal releasing.

Valens is also just kinda cute tbh, you can tell he loves astrology and his students.
returning to queen Demetra, this book has been something I’ve come back to over and over again.
the myths, stories & wisdom these pages contain tend to find you at the right time (in my experience). a very helpful resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the asteroids!
not solely an astrology book, but 36 secrets is a beautiful piece of work that helps illuminate the different faces of the zodiac through the lens of tarot.
its a really enjoyable read and a great way to start working with the decans & boost your tarot knowledge in the process!
& now I must shamelessly plug my own guidebook because I think it’s a great resource for beginners who aren’t ready to jump into a 500+ page text.
if you want something a bit more bite-sized & beginner-friendly, the baby astro guidebook is perfect!

as far as other resources go —
I highly recommend checking out Austin Coppock’s norwac talk on the decans (very very worth the price while we wait for the 2nd ed of 36 faces)
Kelly Surtees’ workshop on aspects was also an amazing resource for me when I was first starting out!
Beyond that, if you want to learn astrology then I can’t encourage you more to *practice* it. Marinate in it. Try to read your friends & family’s charts, it’s okay if you’re wrong at first. It’s a skill set that takes time to develop.
Engage with different astrologer’s content. Explore modern & traditional. Don’t just take what an astrologer says (myself included) as fact — ask yourself how we’ve come to our conclusions. Why is someone saying that about a certain transit?
Pull up the chart & try to figure it out yourself. The hands-on experience is just as important as the book knowledge. You might need the book knowledge first, but at some point you’ve also got to dive in and see what actually *works* in practice.
But that’s just my advice 🧡✨
