someone asked me if I could compile a list of my favorite astrology books & make a thread, so without further ado…
legends are legends for a reason!!
this book is really *it* if you want to learn hellenistic astrology. you learn more than just concepts and techniques — you also learn about the history and transmission of astrology as a whole. this book is comprehensive & unmissable imo.
Demetra is the GOAT & we owe her eternal gratitude —
these two books are incredible for understanding planetary condition & the houses. volume 1 teaches you how to judge if a planet is capable of producing its significations & volume 2 is an incredible deep-dive on the houses.
another legendary fav of mine —
Planets in Transit is one of the best resources I’ve found on interpreting transits & was something I heavily referenced when I first started writing horoscopes. It even includes transits to the angles & outers, so you get a really complete scope!
When it comes to ancient texts, Dorotheus is one of my favs. He goes in to a variety of different subjects & is a nice introduction to reading older sources.
You’ll get natal *and* electional info in here, so you’ll be exposed to multiple branches of astro as well!
Anthologies by Vettius Valens is probably my all-time favorite ancient source & he’s also the OG for information about zodiacal releasing.
Valens is also just kinda cute tbh, you can tell he loves astrology and his students.
returning to queen Demetra, this book has been something I’ve come back to over and over again.
the myths, stories & wisdom these pages contain tend to find you at the right time (in my experience). a very helpful resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the asteroids!
not solely an astrology book, but 36 secrets is a beautiful piece of work that helps illuminate the different faces of the zodiac through the lens of tarot.
its a really enjoyable read and a great way to start working with the decans & boost your tarot knowledge in the process!
& now I must shamelessly plug my own guidebook because I think it’s a great resource for beginners who aren’t ready to jump into a 500+ page text.
if you want something a bit more bite-sized & beginner-friendly, the baby astro guidebook is perfect!
as far as other resources go —
I highly recommend checking out Austin Coppock’s norwac talk on the decans (very very worth the price while we wait for the 2nd ed of 36 faces)
Kelly Surtees’ workshop on aspects was also an amazing resource for me when I was first starting out!
Beyond that, if you want to learn astrology then I can’t encourage you more to *practice* it. Marinate in it. Try to read your friends & family’s charts, it’s okay if you’re wrong at first. It’s a skill set that takes time to develop.
Engage with different astrologer’s content. Explore modern & traditional. Don’t just take what an astrologer says (myself included) as fact — ask yourself how we’ve come to our conclusions. Why is someone saying that about a certain transit?
Pull up the chart & try to figure it out yourself. The hands-on experience is just as important as the book knowledge. You might need the book knowledge first, but at some point you’ve also got to dive in and see what actually *works* in practice.
But that’s just my advice 🧡✨

Fun fact: Joseph Campbell, the guy who popularized the concept of The Hero’s Journey, has both Mercury and Jupiter cazimi in the first decan of Aries where Neptune will be transiting up until 2030
This double cazimi shows him writing (Mercury) about what he’s learned (Jupiter) about the nature of the Self (Sun) and his impression of what that is is greatly influenced by the first decan of Aries, a place of initiation, beginnings and defeating the odds.
“The Hero's Journey was his all-embracing metaphor for the deep inner journey of transformation that heroes in every time and place seem to share, a path that leads them through great movements of separation, descent, ordeal, and return.” — Stuart Voytilla
Neptune has officially entered Aries for the first time since the 1800s (no big deal!!!) 💥🧵
Neptune spends ~14 years in each sign and coincides with profound collective (and personal) shifts.
Neptune points to The Ideal — it’s the thing everyone seems to become obsessed with during a given decade.
In Pisces, we saw Neptune romanticizing the mystical which coincided with the rise of more esoteric and spiritual practices (hello everyone having costar on their phones and knowing their big three).
The Aries solar eclipse is here and she is LOUD! 🧵
This eclipse is a special one because it occurs the day before Neptune enters Aries for the first time since the 1800s.
It ushers this transit in by igniting something within us that allows us to see what it is we want to build, fight for and pour our energy into in the Aries parts of our charts.
Since this eclipse occurs in a square to Mars, there can be a tendency to sever what isn’t working as you begin to relentlessly pursue something else.
This lunation sees us turning a page in the Pisces parts of our charts & asks us to consider what wishes to be born here.
The first decan of Pisces where this new moon takes place is one that deals with wandering, with the big questions of life, and with contentment and divine discontentment alike.
It asks us if we’re truly happy with where we’re at or if we’d be better served by leaving behind what is Known & stable to seek something more meaningful.
During this new moon, you’ll likely find yourself pulled to pursue something that feels more aligned with your spirit.
The Sun is currently in the third decan of Aquarius!
This face is co-ruled by the Moon and Venus and brings us deep into our hearts as we finish our journey through Saturn’s signs.
This decan asks us what we value and why we value it — who taught us that we should value certain things and what would it look like if we disentangled ourselves from that entirely? It’s a place of questioning and discernment, of idealism and opportunity.
In the journey through Aquarius, we see the story of someone leaving home in the first face and on the journey towards somewhere new in the second.
The Venus retrograde is one of the defining transits of 2025, but it’s not an isolated moment — Mercury, Saturn and Neptune will ALL station retrograde in Aries & move back into Pisces.
These retrogrades are echos of one another and they’re part of a bigger storyline that continues to unfold until February of 2026 when Saturn moves into Aries for good.
It’s a story of beginnings and endings, the head and the heart, idealism and reality.
And it keeps us suspended in a liminal space for all of 2025 as we attempt to usher a new world into being while bringing another to a close. It’s messy, it’s exciting, it’s daunting and it’s dreamy.
It impacts *everyone* in major ways regardless of your chart.
