Tulu is an ancient Dravidian language with a history of 2000 years. Tulu is among the 5 Dravidian languages which has its own script.

Tamil poet Mamular who belongs to the Sangam Age(200 BCE) describes TuluNadu and its dancing beauties in his poems.

In the Kannada Halmidi inscriptions, one finds mention of the Tulu country as the kingdom of the Alupas.The region was also known to the Greeks of the 2nd century as Tolokoyra(Tulu Country).

The Charition mime, a Greek play belonging to the 2nd century BC, language different from Greece has its plot centered around the coastal Karnataka, where Tulu is mainly spoken. The play is mostly in Greek, but the Indian characters in the play are seen speaking Tulu words.

The various medieval inscriptions of Tulu from the 15th century are in the Tulu script like Anantapura,Barkuru Tulu inscriptions. Tulu epics named
✍️Sri Bhagavato✍️Kaveri✍️Devi Mahatmyam from the 17th century were also written in the Tulu Script.

The Shaiva Agamas is composed in Sanskrit and written in Tulu script. Though there may be a few copies of these texts available elsewhere, this particular codex comes from Tulunadu,providing glimpses into the regional variations and peculiarities in ritual patterns.

The manuscripts written in Tulu Script are also found in Dharmasthala,Ramachandrapura Matha of Hosanagar,Shimoga, Sonda Swarnavalli Math Sirsi and the Ashta Mathas of Udupi
Many Manuscripts written in Tulu Script are found across bramhin households,palaces,temples across Tulunadu

Tulu script is used all over Tulunadu. Many manuscripts are found North Canara,Udupi,Shimoga, Chikkamagaluru and Kasaragod. There are many manuscripts found in this region.The major language of manuscripts is Sanskrit,mainly the works of Veda,Jyotisha and other Sanskrit epics

The 12th century Dvaitha Saint and Philosopher Sri Madhvacharya was a Tuluva,Many of his works were written in Tulu Script and seers of 8 mutts established by his holiness use Tulu Script and their signatures are in Tulu Script

Naga aradhana [Worship of Nagas] is an important religious rituals in Tulunadu.
Before commencement of any festivals,Naga devata is worshipped first.
Lord Nagaraja is bathed with milk, and then Tambila(ritual offering) is performed.
Naga Panchami,Shashti are important festivals

Naga mandala/Dakke bali , Ashlesha bali, Sarpa samskaram,Naga Tambila are important rituals related to Naga aradhana.

Kambula the famous buffalo 🐃 race of Tulunadu preserving its great cultural heritage,pride and glory

Pilli nalike (Tiger 🐯🐅 dance) Tulunadu is performed on special occasions like krishna janmashtami, Ganesh chaturthi and especially during Navaratri festival.
Tiger 🐅 is the vehicle of goddess Durga by performing pilli vesha a performer completely surrenders to supreme Durga.

The Tulu language is known for its oral literature in the form of epic poems called pardana. The Epic of Siri and the legend of Koti and Chennayya belong to this category of Tulu literature.
