The Future Role of Garp: A New Hope

This theory will be a relatively short one because the concept is quite simple & the alternative theories are already well known among the community.

Many already suspect that Garp is the leader or a senior member of Sword & that he will lead a mutiny against the Celestials.

Garp has shown that he is totally opposed to the rule of the Celestial Dragons.

He openly insults them & he refused the rank of Admiral in order to not have to deal with them directly.

Chances are that Garp is an original member of Sword & this group will mutiny during the war

However, that is not the theory that I want to present here. I feel like this theory is already widely known & agreed upon.

Garp may have a more immediate future role to play before all that.

I believe Garp will be the one to save Vivi.

Garp was the one to first mention this incident involving Vivi & Cobra. I believe that he will a major role in resolving it.

Garp will potentially be the one to save Princess Vivi from capture.

I have spoken about this with @StrawhatUFO & I have to give him some credit here because he came up with part of this concept.

We believe that Oda is going to reference Star Wars in a number of ways in the next arc.

To explain the base premise of this theory. Myself & UFO believe that Oda will use similar scenario to that of Princess Leia in A New Hope.

At the beginning of A New Hope, we see a holographic message projected by R2D2 of Leia asking Obi-Wan Kenobi for help.

At first I figured that this message would go to Dragon, as the most obvious stand in for R2D2 in this case would be Kuma, as he is a Cyborg.

But then I realised that Garp is a much more fitting stand in for Obi Wan & there are clones of Kuma, the Pacifistas.

So, if we follow this train of thought then essentially Vivi will have sent a message to Garp asking for his help through one of the Pacifista.

Just as Princess Leia asked Obi-Wan in A New Hope, Vivi will likely request Garp's help to reach safety.

In this case, it would mean that Vivi has sent a message to Garp & Sabo has sent a message to Dragon.

If this is the case then it may be what leads to Dragon & Garp working together.

This basic premise is that through that we will also get more references to Star Wars.

This time, Revenge of the Sith.

'Execute Order 66'

An interesting detail that perhaps lends some credence to this concept is that Vivi's name can be read as VIVI, the Roman numeral for 6 6.

So in this case 'Execute Order: 66' could be framed as 'Complete Mission: Vivi'

I believe that it is through the combination of these events that Garp & Dragon will begin to work together

It may also be that this leads to the situation of Garp leading a Sword mutiny against the Celestial Dragons.

This may be the event that kicks off the Revolution

As a final note. The references to Star Wars may not end there. @StrawhatUFO also highlighted the possibility that the Pluton plot line may be inspired somewhat by the Death Star

If we continue with the idea that Oda is primarily referencing A New Hope. Then it could also be said that a fitting stand in for Darth Vader, as the one pursuing the Princess, would be Akainu.

Their characters are fittingly similar in that they are driven by hatred & anger.

If Akainu were to be the one to pursue Vivi & Garp is to be the one trying to save her, then it may lead to a situation where Garp has to fight Akainu.

This would be reminiscent of the final battle between Darth Vader & Obi Wan.

To conclude. I believe that Garp's future role will be to save Vivi & that this may lead him to fighting Akainu.

If it goes down the same way as Vader vs Obi-Wan did in A New Hope, then it might mean the death of Garp.
