Day two - family, invitation.

Cw: mentioned homophobia, doesn’t go into detail but it’s brought up.
~
‘My aunt is getting married.’
‘Okay?’ He was not expecting that to be the first thing suna said to him when he
Answered this call. The two middle blockers had stayed in contact with each other but their conversation normally stuck to texting memes, or texting to talk shit about the teams they just played. Phone calls were rare, conversations about family even more rare.
‘I need a date
To the wedding.’ Suna replied, casually as if this was normal territory for them.
‘And you’re telling me this why?’
‘C’mon, I know the frogs star middle blocker is smarter than this. The weddings in Sendai, you’re in Sendai, what more could I ask for.’
‘So you find out the
Wedding is near me, and immediately jump to asking me?’
‘Well no. I find out my aunt is getting married, refuse to go because she’s a homophobe and the worst, get told I have to go by my mother, and settle for bringing the worst date possible, hence me calling you.’
‘Excuse
Me?’ Tsukishima bristles. ‘Is that supposed to make me want to go?’
‘Calm down, I meant worst date in her eyes, not mine.’ Suna backtracks. ‘We would make her so mad together. We’re hot, smart, and I know you love pushing peoples buttons as much as I do. You don’t want to
Spend a night pissing off old conservatives with me?’
‘If you’re just looking to annoy her, why don’t you ask Miya. The blonde one, he’s plenty annoying.’
‘Please. He’s a slut for praise, he acts like a bitch until he’s surrounded by aunties and then he’s a role model.’
Tsukishima laughs, deciding to skip the train ride for a slightly longer walk back to his apartment so he can continue the conversation.
‘And how do you know I’m not the same?’
‘Call it an intuition,’ Suna hums. Tsukishima decides to ignore the swoop he felt low in his gut
At the low voice Suna replied with.
‘What all do you expect from me then? Just go and insult your family?’
‘More or less. And you’ll have to put in your piercings.’
‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’
‘I follow your Instagram, I’ve seen them. The eyebrows, the lip.
Wonder where else you might have them that isn’t Instagramable.’ Tsukishima barely suppresses a shiver.
‘Send me the date and I’ll see if I can make it work.’ He says before hanging up.
He could, in fact, make it work and a few weeks later he finds himself housing one suna
Rintarou the night before the wedding. Their suits are hanging in his closet for the morning, and as they’re waiting for the take out to come, Suna decides he’s going to paint tsukishima’s fingernails.
‘I don’t think I can wear this to work.’
‘I’ll help you take it off
Tomorrow. She used to always bitch to my mom about my nails being black all the time, this is perfect.’
‘Fine but I can do it myself.’
‘Have you ever painted your nails before?’ Suna asks, tilting his head slightly and smirking.
‘No, but how hard can it be?’
‘Ok then I’m
Doing it. I’m not having my date have the worst manicure there.’
He relents, but as he realizes how much skin to skin contact is involved with this he regrets it. It won’t be until years later that he realizes how much suna was milking it, that he didn’t need to put his palm
Directly on suna’s knee, that suna didn’t need to gently move his hand each time he finished a nail. The final nail in the coffin is when Suna finishes his right hand, a mix of black and pink glitter of all things, and he lifts tsukishima’s hand to his mouth to gently blow on the
Drying nails.
‘Don’t want them to smudge,’ suna whispers as Tsukishima is frozen, eyes unable to look away from suna’s even as he feels himself blushing and hears the doorbell ringing with the take out.
He’s fucked.
