1) How are online behaviour Monitored & Targeted?
2) How @DuckDuckGo operates on User privacy?
3) what are pseudo-anonymous & anonymous data?

1) Behavioral Targeting is an online targeting technique that uses information collected about an individual’s web-browsing history, such as the pages they have visited or the searches they have made, to select which advertisements to display.

Studying consumer buying behavior leads to a greater understanding of the expectations of customers.

Ex: A guy repeatedly visited a web page with reviews of toy, This indicates an interest. By targeting ads about this exact product significantly rises the chance of purchasing.

2) @DuckDuckGo is fairly safe & offers much more privacy than mainstream browsers. Although it partners with companies like Bing, Wikipedia, Yahoo.

it's main appeal is your search privacy meaning it doesn't collect user data & track your search history or share to 3rd parties.

There's a paper I found while doing some research about the user privacy & functions of Duck Duck Go as a CSE study if anyone here wants to learn more & dig deep.

here's the link :

3) Pseudonymisation means the processing of personal data in such a manner that the personal data can no longer be attributed to a specific person without the use of additional information.

Anonymization is used to produce data that cannot be linked back to an individual.

The key difference here is that pseudonymised data can be reversed, while anonymised data can never be identifiable.

Data masking is the standard solution for data pseudonymisation.

Data encryption translates data into another form, so people with a secret key can access.

4) GDPR - General Data Protection Regulation, to give users more control over their data.

It uniforms all data privacy laws across Europe. These are rules & regulations that tell companies how to do data privacy the right way.

I've found few things PM's can do ensure Privacy 👇

- Anticipate & prevent breaches from occurring (pic 👆)
- Privacy as the default setting
- Privacy embedded in design
- Products should be built with privacy in mind
- A full lifecycle management of information, so that personal data is properly secured & not retained for longer.
