Because of recent wrong assumptions about "separatism"🧵

86% of Ukrainians want to become member of the EU (rating group poll) 79% in Eastern Ukraine, 84% in Southern Ukraine.

Let's take a look back at 2014, when Ukraine seemed far less united, and get ready for some surprises

Source KIIS survey 2014

"Do you support the idea, that your region should secede from Ukraine and join Russia? "

Zaporizhia region 17,5% rather no & 64% no
rather yes 4,0% or yes 2,2%

Kherson region 11,1% rather no 73,5% no
rather yes 2,5 or yes 1,0%

"Do you support the idea, that your region should secede from Ukraine and join Russia? "

Luhansk region 20,6% rather no, 31,3% no vs. 17,1 rather yes, 13,2% yes

Donetsk region 17,3% rather no, 34,9% no vs. 15,6% rather yes and 11,9% yes

"Do you support introduction of Russian troops into Ukraine?"

It is reasonable to say, that in 2022 these figures are much higher in favor of Ukrainian unity, cause we know that the support for EU membership was smaller back then.

2022 May (67%) & October (79%) pro EU in Eastern Ukraine (Center f Insight in Survey Research / Rating group)

In Donbas there was an area ("DNR/LNR") controlled by RU🇷🇺 proxies. People within these territories and in government controlled areas were asked about their opinion in 2019.

Not even the residents flooded with RU-propaganda and disinfo for years answered in favor of separatism

Do you remember, when armed Russian proxies and warlords occupied administrative buildings in Ukraine and proclaimed "people's republics"?

"Do you support actions of those, who with arms capture administrative buildings in your region?"

Conclusion:

In 2014, there were different ideas in Ukraine about the geopolitical orientation, but this does not mean that there was a relevant separatist movement. After the Russian aggression in 2014/2022, Ukrainian identity & pro-European orientation developed significantly.
