Parliament has been dissolved. Now, I highly recommend you download the MySPR Semak app if you haven't already. ESPECIALLY if you're a new voter.

How does it help? Thread 👇🏻

The app should be available across all smartphones. Just search "myspr semak" in your app store.

Once you open the app, this is the homepage.

Check your voter status here. Now that the Undi18 Bill has been implemented, every Malaysian citizen above the age of 18 can vote. No need to register anymore.

Just check your status via IC number here:

Your details should come out like this.

TAKE NOTE:
1. Parlimen
2. DUN

For this General Election, you will be voting for both your Parlimen and DUN representatives.

(Except Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka & Johor as we already had state elections. So we only vote Parlimen for #GE15)

1. Parlimen

The Member of Parliament (MP) you vote for will represent your parliamentary constituency (kawasan parlimen) in the Dewan Rakyat to draft, debate, and vote on policies that affect the whole country.

2. DUN

The Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) you vote for will represent your DUN constituency (kawasan DUN) in the State Assembly/Dewan Undangan Negeri to draft, debate, and vote on policies more specific to the needs of your state.

What's the difference between Parlimen & DUN?

Parlimen at the federal/national level & DUN at the state level have different jurisdictions & areas of "control." There are also some areas where these jurisdictions overlap.

Back to the MySPR Semak app.

The reason I recommend everyone have this app is because one of the top concerns re:election is, "I don't know who to vote for."

The info readily available via the MySPR Semak app can help you make your decision.

Here's how:

Now, parliament has been dissolved. The next thing you should keep your ears & eyes out for:

1. Polling day i.e the date of the election (to be announced by the Election Commission - EC/Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya - SPR)

2. Candidates from each party

Once the EC announces the election date, parties will start announcing their candidates. And this is when we start to decide who to vote for.

No need to scour through every news article. Check the candidates for your Parlimen and your DUN via the app:

The list of candidates will only be available on the app after every party has announced their candidate. If you check now, there is no list.

So come back to this list later and identify who will be contesting in your Parlimen and your DUN.

Then, start looking them up.

This is how I "judge" which candidate I want to vote for:

Also:
👉🏻 Google is your best friend!
👉🏻 Read from multiple sources.
👉🏻 Monitor mainstream news as well as social media.
👉🏻 Question everything and keep an open mind.

👉🏻 Semakan Keputusan Pilihan Raya

Candidate list is not out yet, BUT what you can do is start doing homework of people who previously contested in your Parlimen and DUN, and people who won.

This is where this feature comes in handy.

Once you know your Parlimen and DUN, you can start doing some research based on the previous election.

For example, these are the results for my Parlimen and DUN. So now, I can start checking on these people to see what they have been up to.
