Here's a behind-the-scenes story shared by volunteer Dorene about a "no-official-name" team formed in less than 4 days to coordinate US flights arriving at KLIA on polling day. How to ensure all postal ballots reach ROs as far as Sabah lah? In less than ONE day!! 🧵👇 World map showing the postal ballot journeys to Kuala Lumpur
It was a heart-stopping journey of many legs that involved the roping in of an Etihad Cypriot pilot to fly ballots from NYC to Abu Dhabi. There, another pilot received the ballots and handed them to a pilot passenger (flyer) to carry to KUL. 🧵👇
Lagi kancheong when one of their flyers was detained at the KLIA police station for not having a 'ballot carrying permit." Fortunately, due to speedy support from volunteers & SPR, he was released.

There were also runners who kena saman parking and one who had a car break-in👇

It's the start of #16DaysOfActivism - a global campaign to end gender-based violence.

The #GE15 manifestos had 3 proposals on gender-based violence.

In conjunction with #16Days, the govt can commit to adopting these proposals right away.

Some recommendations:👇
(1) Enact the anti-stalking law #MakeStalkingACrime

This was in PN's manifesto, but all coalitions would agree. Dewan Rakyat already passed the Bill, but not the Senate.

Govt could commit to: A) pass the Bill as is; or B) improve the Bill (wao.org.my/tabling-of-law…) then pass it
(2) Implement the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act

BN and PN both committed to this. PH surely agrees. As the Act is already law, the government has to implement it.

The question is, what can the government do right away, to ensure successful implementation?

Tough job given the circumstances, but I thought he did OK. A bit of this, a bit of that. He reacted instead of responded- but better than being the lawful evil that would literally hold of the parliament.

Some of his policies were decent. I did some checks.
Had some time, and I cross checked against Tawaran Harapan, which was @anwaribrahim's led party's manifesto for #GE15.

Now, this is normal. It's normal for certain groundworks to have been done by the previous PM, for the new PM to continue.
I just absolutely hate it when a policy is dubbed as new because we don't have a tracking system. Like, fuck- we're dependent on recent bias most of the time, aren't we?

Anyway, in a gist, here's what I found was done during DSIS term-

Sharing : Insider news from Ang W.X (AXTJ) a famous lawyer & commentator.

Let me tell you that even though Warisan has been hit hard by Pakatan Harapan in #GE15 , Shafee is still trying to mediate GPS and some leaders in BN to support Pakatan Harapan to form a government.

🧵1
🧵2

Because the Warisan Party knows very well what kind of Malaysia will be when the Perikatan Nasional is in power. Therefore, the Warisan Party is willing to do this when it is trapped in such a way, trying to help the PH to prevent the "backdoor government" from succeeding.
🧵3

It is certain that Warisan's three seats will support PH, and it is impossible for them to support PN (which is equivalent to supporting GRS). The process of winning a few seats is also quite smooth, but the condition is that the PH cannot let Anwar become the PM.

If the #GE15 election didn't go exactly your way, don't be too down. Voting in elections is just one part of a healthy democracy. You can affect ongoing change in many other ways. Support and engage with civil society, independent media and various government agencies.
There was a time in Malaysia, that political opponents could be rounded up and jailed without trial for 60 days, activists locked up in solitary confinement on false trumped up charges. But they still kept working towards change until these draconian laws were repealed.
Thousands of ordinary Malaysians braved arrests and tear gas, lawyers took up legal cases, for the right that we have now to peacefully protest. You have right to this now, and peaceful political protests is part of a healthy democracy also.

HARAPAN, BN, and PN #GE15 manifestos – which is best on women rights? My review👇
It may not be possible to definitively say "which is best".

Instead, I suggest a brief framework for analysis (asking 5 questions of each manifesto), and I offer some thoughts on policy commitments I felt were particularly noteworthy.
Question 1: First, we must ask if the manifesto is strong OVERALL.

When we hear “women” & policy, we often think of specific programmes targeted at women. These programmes are important, but just a small part of any policy agenda.

#GE15 is a time when we exercise our freedom of expression #FOE as a fundamental and constitutional #right as citizens of #Malaysia.

This is our opportunity to express our opinions and choices as voters in determining the future of #Malaysia as a #democratic nation.
However, hate speech & dangerous rhetoric does tend to spike, especially during #elections.

In exercising our #FOE we must adhere to #international standards on #equality & non-discrimination & prevent the spread of hate speech, especially targeted at vulnerable groups.

#GE15 #PRU15 Thread

As a Sarawakian, I find it incredible to listen to SUPP people to use arguments like:

"West Malaysia is in disarray and Sarawak must be united to vote GPS"

"Don't vote for Malaya party"

This perception is pretty questionable.
About unity, it depends on what unity you are talking about.

Unity in terms of loving Sarawak, the land of hornbills? Absolutely.

Support Sarawak in SUKMA, and Sarawakians at international stage? Absolutely.

Liking Sarawak Laksa? Also absolutely.
The problem is that the use of unity and state nationalism/regionalism to moral kidnap and coerce people mentally to vote for you.

It is a good election strategy. Others might take the bait, but I watch comedy shows from the West, so I know what's real substance and what's BS.
