Want better ideas?
Ideas are new connections between old thoughts.
So remembering thoughts + making connections = ideas.
Easy to say. Hard to do.
Unless you use a secret weapon: #PKM.
Here's how:👇
Remember when you had a good idea?
I bet you were solving a problem.
You'd walked away and then - boom - idea out of nowhere.
Your mind keeps working even when you don't. And it often works better because you make connections subconsciously.
But you need a primer: your #PKM.
The number of new ideas I have is increasing.
I now have more ideas every week than I used to have in months.
Why?
Because I started doing 2 things consistently:
noting down thoughts and writing.
Noting down thoughts works because your memory doesn't.
Or rather, you will remember the thought... kind of.
Just not when you need it.
But note it down in your #PKM and you'll find it every time you search for something similar.
Your best thoughts - always waiting for you.
Often the way you phrase thoughts has meaning.
So there's little more annoying than not being able to remember how you phrased it.
Unless it's contorting yourself over and over to grasp it again - only to fail.
Noting it down in the first place removes that frustration.
The more thoughts you note down, the more your web of thoughts expands.
A tangible, visible, searchable web.
Tap one strand and many more vibrate.
Each is a potential connection. And more connections allow for more ideas.
Your #PKM lets you think in a way you can't otherwise.
Writing is a forcing function.
It makes you explain your thoughts.
Which inevitably means you need to think differently.
And anytime you think differently you need more input - so search your #PKM and make more connections.
Which means more ideas.
Don't think you have good ideas?
Meet the Equal-Odds Rule:
The av publication from a genius is no more likely to impact the world than yours.
Why then does a genius have more impact?
They've built a foundation of thought and a lot more publications.
So you have work to do.
The Equal-Odds Rule applied to ideas:
On average, you are no less likely to have a good idea than others.
But people with the most ideas have the most good ideas.
So have more ideas.
Lots will be bad - and you might not be able to tell which ones are good.
But some will be.
