Back for day 2 at #Fyuz22 - breakout session on TIP work on fixed broadband, optical & transport

10 TIP sub-groups on fixed broadband

Various commercial devices (more quant detail later in the keynote sessions)

Now FBB group doing disaggregated BNg & whitebox OLT

Lot of focus in fixed side of @TelecomInfraP is for mobile backhaul / fronthaul transport

OOPT doing disagg cell site gateways, routers, also planning tools & simulation

#Fyuz22

Just noticed “metaverse ready transport” in that chart.

Sigh.

… although I guess as long as it’s not as awful a vision as the #F5G nonsense I saw last week from WBBA I can deal with the hype-driven name

Disagg router & SDN being tested

KDDI & Turkcell done early tests

This is the Metaverse-ready MANTRA group at TIP

Focus on IPoWDM, so right down in the real source of value

No idea what “their party alien wavelengths” are!

Pluggable tranceivers, and combined transponder + router chassis

Exploratory stage. PoC in 2023

Hadn’t really heard of @IPInfusion before

Interesting to see reference to @netomnia in UK FTTX network

Now up, @MarvellTech talking about 5G fronthaul transport via Ethernet

Unclear to me that most FTTX providers are following this closely. Some talk about small cell backhaul. But limited mention of xHaul

This venue - IFEMA Palacio Municipal - has some great architecture, but it also has absolutely ludicrous “safety” theatre

It has a pre-session video longer than an aircraft safety demo, and the utterly stupid badge-scanning 100x a day at multiple points in the building

The mic for the keynote didn’t work. Ooops.

Guess they spent the audiovisual budget on the badge-scanning gadgets (which use veeeeery slow NFC) & army of human monitors wielding them

Definitely looks like TIP moving towards a pre-integrated “system” model for #OpenRAN

Makes sense to me - basically reference designs IMO

Supply diversification = more systems integrators

Cringey-but-understandable (as it’s media friendly)

“Metaverse ready”

Curious to see if in the literature it gets a capital M or not. If it’s Metaverse rather than metaverse then it’ll be a major category error

Good to hear recognition from @meta @Meta_Cx panellist that most AR/VR in medium term will be delivered on home WiFi

TIP metaverse group aiming to foster understanding of QoS, interop, measurements etc - may read across to the mobile domain

Sees TIP as "primary community"
