False and defamatory claims about the AEA DeAngelo investigation are being circulated online by anonymous accounts.

If our institutions aren’t going to protect us, we have to protect ourselves. Time to set the record straight.

There was a Title IX complaint filed at CGU before the AEA complaint. This is the AEA investigative report’s summary of that Title IX complaint:

Although the AEA investigation was not as thorough as I had hoped, it is not true that it found “no victims, no witnesses.” Here are 3 findings from the AEA investigative report:

1) RPI

2) WVU

3) WVU (again, filed during the middle of the AEA investigation)

A new Title IX complaint was filed in September 2021 at CGU by parties unrelated to the AEA complainant.

First allegation: sexual assault of a student at a conference in AY 18/19, followed by harassing communications:

Second allegation: a rape complaint and a formal investigation at RIT when DeAngelo was an undergraduate (also one of the allegations in the AEA complaint):

This complaint was not investigated by CGU.

Those circulating false and defamatory information about victims and reporters of sexual harassment and sexual assault in this case may not have known the extent of DeAngelo’s alleged misconduct. I hope this clarifies the situation.

(Note that the redactions above were either made by the AEA, in the report it shared, or to protect individuals' identities.)
