Note to self: how to launch a new product.
I spent the last year learning about product marketing, but it's much faster to learn from the best in class launch example @lexdotpage this month😅
Breakdown of how they did it:
1. The pre-launch waitlist
+ Go gradual - get feedback and improve - don't show everyone your first take
+ Build fomo (1037 ahead of me!)
+ Gamify ways to move up waiting list
+ Humble tone

2. Pre-launch social hype
In the waitlist message, there is a link to tweet, with a pre-written tweet for you.
This mystery new product was everywhere in my feed.
3. Coordinated power user hype
They shared the app first with influencers, who tweeted about how great it was, before the launch.

4. Invite friends
When you do get access after a week, you can invite 5 friends. There's enough fomo that you just might do it...(I did).

5. Prompt to come back for second bite
1 day after the first product use, set email (@ConvertKit) to follow up with new features (already?!), to engage the user to try again.
(It's hard to have a wow effect in one use).
6. Get actionable feedback
They use the @Superhuman product-market fit method - explained here: review.firstround.com/how-superhuman…
40% 'very disappointed' to not keep using Lex is the product market fit benchmark.
7. Build your product with community feedback
To engage your product nerds (core community), give them a say. We all love that.
