8TH ANNUAL
BULL CITY FOODRAISER
FINAL RESULTS
MULTI-DAY
MEGA-THREAD
**********
This is the thread where I'll post updates throughout the week
If you're local to Durham, here are the volunteer details from @PrkrsProfessors:
Things are happening slightly out of order today. The forklift was the first piece of the puzzle to arrive 😂
(No receipt for that until after the event, so here's the bank account entry)
And our shipping company – not Amazon Freight because they're incompetent – appears ready to go:
(Thread from March is below, for those unfamiliar)
Currently at the bank waiting on secondary approvals, because the cashier's check amount to Costco is over the normal bank approval limits 😱
Here's the signed cashier's check 🎉
Pulling up to Costco! All 3 of these trucks are ours -- one on the right is @Costco's inbound truck, left two are for delivery to the school
Yep!
➡️ About ~$9,100ish (6.97%) is pure inflationary cost increase since March '22 for the same goods
➡️ $1,486.23 is for ramen, which used to be part of our bags but couldn't get in Dec '21 or Mar '22 due to supply constraints
➡️ $3,109.17 is applesauce (donated in Mar '22)
Forewarned Costco Mike that I was gonna share a clip of him ringing stuff up 😆
➡️ Store manager Costco Janet says hi to y'all! 👋
➡️ She says her husband, Costco Ryan, is doing well 🥰
(Background on The Legendary Costco Ryan is below)
The final results are in!
(I kid, I kid 😂)
The final results are officially in!
We received confirmation from Costco Janet that this is the single-largest purchase *ever* at this particular Costco location! 🔥🔥🔥
No live-action loading pics this time, but here's a shot of the full trailer and the in-progress-of-being-filled trailer
For size comparison, the receipt is longer than my steering wheel 😂
Yes, substantially so. As big as our orders are, they're still too small to get meaningful discounts; every distributor we've talked to has been double-digit % more expensive than going through Costco.
Oh yes, this a 1.5-month long process now
Costco has a concierge team to take care of us, led by Costco Mike. We coordinate on expected orders in late October / early November, then work with them on adjustments as needed based on supply constraints
I am now on-site at Lakewood Elementary School!
The @PrkrsProfessors Word of the Week: Synopsis
Paper bags were donated this year by Not Just Paper in Durham NC -- they said donors paid for our invoice! 🥺
Here's (unexpectedly short) video of the bread trucks arriving, with their 5,104 loaves of bread:
Number of students we're serving across 14 elementary schools, with an added ~50ish loaf buffer for problems (loaf getting squished or torn open or etc)
Selfie of me with Friend of the Foodraiser @GomeralDAL:
And another selfie of us with the partially unloaded truck, while we waited for the YMCA bus to squeeze past the 18-wheeler 😬
(Yes, I am repping both of my alma maters @NCState and @NCCU at the same time 😆 #GoPack #EaglePride)
Friend of the Foodraiser @Itsjustbeej took some video of your favorite lawyer's favorite lawyer running the forklift:
After we were done moving the pallets inside – due to a *lot* of volunteers you'll see shortly – we did a group selfie ☺️
From left is Turquoise (@PrkrsProfessors), Daniel (@GomeralDAL), Costco Seth, Costco Mike, and yours truly
Here's some video of volunteers getting all the goods sorted into the workstations
Many of these folks were instrumental in getting the pallets from the curb into the gym too 🥰
Here is our bag template. Each bag will have 18 items:
➡️ Cereal
➡️ Peanut butter
➡️ Chicken x2
➡️ Tuna x2
➡️ Brown beans
➡️ Black beans
➡️ Green beans
➡️ Corn
➡️ Mac & cheese
➡️ Ramen
➡️ Apple sauce
➡️ Granola bar
➡️ Oatmeal
➡️ Popcorn
➡️ Lance crackers
➡️ Bread
Turq and I decided to do our annual eagle pose tonight instead of waiting until the end and forgetting like we did in March 😆🦅
Sadly I had to leave soon thereafter b/c I'm very behind at work (tomorrow [Redacted] is going GA for enterprise customers on its major new product that I may or may not have played a role in 😆)
Will share more updates tomorrow!
Reminder of the volunteering details for those who are local:
They did! Costco Seth was in the trucks with Daniel and the pallet jack moving pallets to where I could get them, and Costco Mike was helping push the pallets from the curbside to the gym ☺️
Costco has been a *fantastic* partner for years now!
We do, it's stupid 🤦♂️
We fill out paperwork we have to print and snail mail to the NC Department of Revenue in Q1, and they mail us a refund check for it in Q3. It's like we make a zero interest loan to the Government for 6 months 😤
We're thankful to the Bulldog administration for letting us commandeer their gym twice a year!
No, the company has an anti-nepotism policy so when Costco Janet came in they moved Costco Ryan to manage one of the warehouses in Raleigh (tweet from the 7th Annual is here: )
The wild part is that their **3** largest purchases of all time at this store are all us 😂
Yes. It's intentional though: the General Assemblycritters know most nonprofits won't submit the refund paperwork, so the General Fund keeps the money
The funny part is that Sam's Club f*cked us on a meager $13K order
Between March and December, we've paid $275,942.04 to Costco this calendar year
It's not about simplicity, it's about the professional welfare queens running the General Assembly
Multiple other states have figured this out, but the NCGA would rather rake in the tax money
Good question, idk if they have that data available anywhere 😂
You are comically pathetic 😂
Vic Mignogna continues to have the best fans
Can you imagine how disappointing your life must be to become *such* a simp for a sexual predator and pedophile like Vic Mignogna that you stalk people to talk sh*t from behind a block? 🤣
Good talk 👍👍
Apparently. Note that this one went out of his way to reply to a totally unrelated charity thread
Costco is cheaper, substantially so
We price-checked alternatives last year at the request of one of our larger donors, the prices were absurd
If anyone knows anyone at @CAH, happy to discuss sponsorship options for March 2023 😂

8TH ANNUAL
BULL CITY FOODRAISER
DAY 2
**********
Some pics and a short video of where things are at as of ~5:30p EST-ish today: twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Day 2 5:30p EST pallet count:
Day 2 5:30p EST bread rack count
44 empty racks outside and another ~90 being re-used as carts, puts us at roughly 1,340 loaves of bread bagged thus far (~26%)
Another quick video of the action at about 7:30p EST:
I don't have a hard count on bags done, but we had 1 delivery already (Burton), 4 trucks pre-packed for delivery tomorrow AM, and about 2.5 more trucks' worth of bags ready for loading when those trucks get back
My best estimate is ~2,300 bags done (45%), way ahead of schedule!
Also one of my coworkers at [Redacted] showed up to help! 🥰
Thank you so much for your help!!
I'm likely going to miss all of tomorrow's festivities, because I've gotta work 😔
I'll pass on any updates I'm given 😆
My lower back hurts so bad rn 😂😔

8TH ANNUAL
BULL CITY FOODRAISER
DAY 3
**********
Not many pics today b/c I had to work, living vicariously through the many volunteers (that's Turquoise in the last pic by the Cheerios)
The step team from Southern High School gave everyone a brief performance in addition to volunteering 🥰
And we've got some bags pre-bagged for tomorrow, so once the first deliveries are done we can run the next loads

8TH ANNUAL
BULL CITY FOODRAISER
DAY 4
**********
WE ARE DONE BAGGING
**REPEAT: WE ARE DONE BAGGING**
We've got the Lakewood allotment on the stage, and deliveries for the last 2 schools are pre-loaded for delivery tomorrow AM when their site teams are ready:
Turquoise (@PrkrsProfessors) is chatting with local media about the history 🥰
