To be credible promoting #transparency globally, 🇪🇺 must push not just 🇨🇳, but its own 🎣 fleet to be more transparent and accurate in their reporting by:

✅Mandating onboard catch certification and electronic monitoring systems.
❌Not lowering standards.

.@EUAuditors also recently found that import controls are not uniform across the Union.

As a result, fish caught illegally by 🇨🇳’s vessels ends up on EU plates too easily, outcompeting legal 🎣 in the 🇪🇺.

To fight #IUU 🎣, import checks must be consistent & strong across the 🇪🇺

The study by @PolicyPECH aligns with the latest advice of 🇪🇺🎣 advisory councils, which call on the EU to step up its engagement with China.

High sustainability standards & transparency must be applied to drive positive changes all along the supply chain.

To achieve this, resources dedicated to the implementation of the EU’s policy against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing must be reinforced.

The EU must also be able to count on its strategic allies around the world to enforce strong checks on #IllegalFishing.
