The Culling Game arc taught us that Cursed Energy reinforcement in essence is comprised of 3 main aspects:
1. Output (出力), e.g. Ryu Ishigori
2. Quantity (総量), e.g. Yuta Okkotsu
3. Manipulation (操作), e.g. Hajime Kashimo
Together they provide the basis of CE reinforcement &
why it varies greatly from sorcerer to sorcerer. Its combat application is called Taijutsu (体術)
1. Output is the EJECTION of CE, often denoted with “explosiveness” & energy blasts. Mechamaru & Ishigori come to mind as monsters of output. Also, Black Flash may happen when it’s
output extremely fast
2. Quantity, or reserves, determines the RATE that a sorcerer is constantly outputting
It’s the distinction between ejecting 100 to 0 CE in 1 sec vs. streaming a constant 90 for 10 sec. It’s correlated to endurance & why Yuta was compared to a water tank
Having huge CE reserves lets you constantly surge it. Most sorcerers don’t bc it’s unsustainable, but a sorcerer like Yuta can afford it
Jackpot (unlimited CE) mainly extends Hakari’s rate too. It allows him to maintain his best reinforcement (high output) for longer periods
3. Finally, manipulation is the CONTROL of CE. It is the kneading/flowing of CE into the body, its efficiency & efficacy; better manipulation allows one to strike harder with less CE involved than another
Kashimo is a beast thanks to his great manipulation, and Gojo’s Six Eyes
allows Gojo to precisely fine-tune his manipulation such that his CE usage is near zero, yet his CE reinforcement is still top-notch. Output & quantity are more or less fixed except when using DE or Vows, but training one’s manipulation can be a source of improvement
Nonetheless, there’s a limit to how much one can reinforce themselves (outside DE/Vows). However, this limitation may not take into account mindset which plays a critical role in Jujutsu
As a side note, CEs may also have special traits (特性) as Yuta, Hakari, & Kashimo do
As a reminder, Cursed Techniques, Domains, etc. play by their own rules and can/do surpass the limits of basic CE reinforcement
Note the astronomical diff in damage results between Ishi’s high output vs. Bombaye’s virtual mass output
It amazes me how Gege continues to expand his power system even now, providing new insights to how characters can grow stronger
