Ryomen Sukuna took the phrase "Let Me Cook" not just thematically but literally this entire time
Kamino (Kanji: Hearth) is the "black box" that Sukuna kept secret all these years & it's brilliant for two reasons: 1) a hearth was an integral part of Japanese homes in the past
for cooking & warmth; 2) the process of how he unleashes it is genius
Malevolent Shrine is the cupboard that contains his knives
Kai (Dismantle) means "to unload/unravel" the ingredients (AKA the targets)
Hachi (Cleave) means "to prepare/cut" those ingredients

Sukuna’s hyperfocused perception of Cursed Energy reminds me of Maki and Toji’s perfect senses that enabled them to see Cursed Spirits + air temperatures/densities
Given they have similar feats, I believe they share the same vision or at the very least are highly correlated
Like Gojo, they are able to view CE at a highly sharp level (tho still not at his microscopic level)
For Sukuna, this allows him to knead CE with godlike efficiency. For Heavenly Restriction, this allows them to see all the shapes/contours of CE, Curses, and Cursed Techniques

An Anime-Manga COMPARISON of #JujutsuKaisen S2, E5: Premature Death. The downward spiral of Suguru Geto as he realizes what he wants to protect wasn’t what he taught Gojo all along
In other words, the end of a Blue Spring; the end of a dream
[Thread 🧵]
#呪術廻戦 #懐玉・玉折
In contrast to the Hidden Jewel, 玉折 (Gyokusetsu) means literally a Broken Jewel, referring to the "Premature Death" of a virtuous being. The loss of someone who would become great
It refers to Geto, whose chosen way of life turned into a loss for Gojo and the Jujutsu Society

Got the chance to check out Tatsuki Fujimoto’s latest interview about Ghibli!
In it, he talks about his views not just on Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki, but also on the state of anime/manga, including some personal plans for the future
Here are some interesting notes
-First Ghibli movie he watched in theaters & most rewatched today is Spirited Away
-Fav Ghibli character is Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke
-He differentiates manga from other formats, e.g. Ashitaka’s famous arrow scenes wouldn’t work as well, they’d only take small panels

Today I'd like to discuss why Tokyo Colony No. 2 is the most entertaining of entertainments. A battle which, contrary to other CG arcs, is not an exploration of the focus character but a pure application of his way of life
Tokyo 2 is a reflection of Kinji Hakari's philosophy,
his passion given practical form: a life-or-death battle turned into straight-up gambling. And Hajime Kashimo, who is about calculated moves, was the perfect opponent to throw shade to guaranteed odds
Gege Akutami crafts one of the greatest battles that invigorates the "fever"

Sukuna proves once more why his Domain Expansion is “DIVINE.” Not only does it defy Jujutsu logic, but an unclosed barrier eliminates weaknesses of closed barriers
I’ll use my own translations for this chapter to explain bc precise wording matters to a writer like Gege #JJK225
First, a refresher from Ch. 119:
"Malevolent Shrine differs from other Domains in that it does not separate space from its barrier.
Materializing an Innate Domain without closing its barrier is equivalent to painting art not on a canvas, but on air.
A truly divine technique.”

What does the full incantation of Hollow Technique: Purple even mean? Here I go into its Kanji to gleam insight to the ritual, what Gojo clan & Limitless users were cooking when they came up with this killer shit
1. 九綱 (lit. Nine Ropes): The literal TL is misleading. Rather,
it refers to Kyushu written in Chinese (the reading くこう doesn't exist in JP). Kyushu is historically regarded as a cultural gateway to Japan due to its proximity to Asia; in fact, both trade & knowledge came from China thru here too
Nihon Shoki, one of Gege's influences

"Shall we get… a little crazy?”
Any chapter expanding Jujutsu power system lore is ALWAYS a banger chapter. The fact it's channeled towards Hollow Purple lore is an even bigger win
The Colonies focused on CE reinforcement & now we're getting similar exposition for CTs #JJK223
For Hollow Purple, we're seeing how CE manipulation — incantation, complexity, no. of hand seals — allow him to GENERATE more virtual mass. From Toji to Hanami to now Sukuna
(I hope that this chapter also dispels fan headcanon that HP "erases anything it hits from existence")

The truth is Gege Akutami's writing style isn’t based on any conventional storytelling or proper world-building— it's based on something so simple yet so obsessive, it's what makes JJK a central hub for various kinds of fan discussion
The reason? None other than "Entertainment"
In here, I’d like to go over the finer aspects of Gege's unique writing style that’s enraptured so many readers; his blended approach to story & composition
Like any other person, Gege was inspired to write for entertainment— but not in the normal sense you'd come to expect

Today, I’d like to discuss about why Sakurajima Colony is my favorite CG arc
Crafted from his deepest bags of writing, Sakurajima combines Gege Akutami’s love for Buddhist themes; respect for traditional & modernized Japanese values; & fascination with science to create
a literary masterpiece. It's an arc where Gege fosters various storytelling strengths he's well-known in JJK to tell the origin story of a young girl named Maki Zenin
1. The focus between Maki & Naoya is an allegory of Saṃsāra vs. Nirvana, which Maki became a victim of after

Honestly Ch. 220 is an absolute landmark of a chapter. The dressed corpse we see Kenjaku approaching is not only the same one of the very 1st chapter cover, it's more precisely a "Sokushinbutsu": a Buddhist mummy whose sacrificial act is intended to grant them access to "Heaven"
while tying their physical entity on Earth for spiritual power (e.g. protect humans) until they re-enter the cycle of rebirth
The Sokushinbutsu is most likely Sukuna, whose urban legend inspiration talks of a mummified corpse coupled with the fact their faces look the exact same

Since today’s Yuji Itadori’s birthday (3/20) ☺️ here are a few fun facts about him:
• His first name 悠二 comes from Gege’s old classmate, while his surname 虎杖comes from a flower used in medicinal remedy. 虎 also means “tiger”
This flower also makes an appearance in Ch. 145
• He’s actually popular among girls! Even tho he himself doesn’t know about it, it’s mainly with girls who don’t talk about their own feelings
• Yuji is both the best cook AND singer out of the 1st year Tokyo students. How’s that for being attractive?

It’s insane to me how Maki Zenin has been the most diversified martial artist in JJK, evident from her various arms mastery to wide breadth of fighting styles
A list of her known displayed martial arts thus far 🧵
Chinese Kenpō (中国拳法)
Basically Kung Fu, this is Maki’s foundational CQC base. Arm disabling followed by palm strikes, as well as snake fists, are some of its general applications twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

"Jacob's Ladder" is without doubt one of the most astute, thought-provoking techniques in all of Jujutsu Kaisen
It captures the essence of not only Angel through its contextual history as a mark to God, but also the host Hana via its naming as a flower. A thread 🧵 #JJK213
邪去侮 (Yakobu, Jacob) is a combination of Kanji that roughly means "getting rid of evil," perfectly suiting its purpose against the "Fallen Angel" (堕天)
But contrary to its inner reading, the idea of Jacob's Ladder is from Judaism intended to be a discussion, a vision with God

Couple of things I noticed about Maki’s "changes" beyond assessing the situation calmly:
1. Normally she addresses others by their first name, but this is the first time she’s called Yuji & Yuki by their last names. This indicates she's become more polite & mindful of others
Either that, or Gege messed up again (not the first time)
2. Her facial expressions feel more softened now compared to before? Like she’s just more chill. Even when she's being serious, her scowl is less noticeable
But this could simply just be an evolution in artstyle too

The Culling Game arc taught us that Cursed Energy reinforcement in essence is comprised of 3 main aspects:
1. Output (出力), e.g. Ryu Ishigori 2. Quantity (総量), e.g. Yuta Okkotsu 3. Manipulation (操作), e.g. Hajime Kashimo
Together they provide the basis of CE reinforcement &
why it varies greatly from sorcerer to sorcerer. Its combat application is called Taijutsu (体術)
1. Output is the EJECTION of CE, often denoted with “explosiveness” & energy blasts. Mechamaru & Ishigori come to mind as monsters of output. Also, Black Flash may happen when it’s

Reminder that Simple Domain comes in different flavors:
1. New Shadow Style: SD, a Domain for the “weak”
2. Kuchisake-onna’s SD, enacts a pact with its target
3. Miyo’s SD, creates a barrier w/ a Binding Vow for Sumo
Not all nullify sure-hit, not all create a barrier either
So many readers I’ve noticed have SD confused as a general barrier tech. In fact, New Shadow Style’s ver. is NOT one; Gege made this distinction, & it’s never been treated as one
A barrier tech is supposed to prevent ppl from entering/exiting; the NSS ver. does not do this
