So the outgoing co-chair of the #MIGOP wrote a meandering diatribe warning the MAGA faithful of false prophets. She won’t name names, nor is she handing out endorsements for MIGOP chair. I thought I’d do some quick takes: 🧵
Her initial question is if a candidate has run a winning campaign… good question. By this metric all candidates are disqualified; but she keeps going. This must not be a true metric for her. She says there’s a 🐀 among the pack, but won’t name names. 🤔
Her next metric is competence. This should eliminate the entire pack, but again, she keeps expounding. She says the best candidate should be able to tap into an established donor base. That’s all well & good, but she was part of alienating that donor base. It really sounds like
she has a candidate in mind…
She asks good questions of chair candidates as to their fundraising prowess & explains that she couldn’t pony up the 💰💰needed to lead. She criticizes plans to raise funds from delegates, calling them unrealistic.
She praises Weiser for giving/raising money for the party in the face of criticism. She claims he’s given over $7 million of his personal funds to the party. I’m not sure what date range she’s using, or how that can be verified, but he has given millions. $400k+ of that was the
Grot payoff & fine, so these contributions weren’t all altruistic. Given this metric, only one, maybe two of the chair candidates have this fundraising ability. She says she’ll provide an analysis of candidate financial activity, but we have to wait and see.
She also says that a candidate should have a “coherent theory” of what happened in the 2022 election. She goes on to present one, but it’s not #coherent. She rightly states that a chair cannot change state law or party bylaws to insulate the party from interference.
She goes rambling that “Dems/the Left are coming for [her], they are coming for you.”
She states that the only candidates that were worth supporting/funding were #AmericaFirst candidates. They should be on the 🍊 one’s 🚂 too. She finishes up by reiterating the same questions she
Outlined. Again, it sounds like she has a candidate in mind, but she’s keeping that name close to the vest. Her analysis ignores the damage that her family contributed to the party. Oakland Co. is no longer a GOP battleground bc of their actions. Donors didn’t give bc of her.
Demographic trends around the state show that the MIGOP is losing ground in formerly GOP friendly areas. I doubt there’s a candidate who can reverse these trends and appeal to the delegate base. 🧵/end
Update: Besides Putnam’s $1500/quarter delegate contribution plan that was referenced in the email, it appears that the MIGOP does not have the funds to pay for the upcoming Feb. State Convention. So there’s a proposal to charge delegates for the privilege of voting. 🤔
