Today's ad-driven, algorithmically controlled web2 social media platforms have created a social space where displaying your talent or opinions doesn't feel safe anymore and you are never given a fair share for the content you create on these platforms.

The social landscape needs to change. This is where the web3 social landscape comes in. It gives us hope as two of the biggest opportunities in web3 are to change the way communities are formed and the platform we use to come together.

To talk about how these changes are made, we talk about social DAOs. DAOs are formed with the primary aim of building a network, bringing people with similar interests like music or sport together.

However, unlike normal social groups, web3 enabled communities to have an outsized impact in their areas of interest. The creation of social tokens allowed membership to have tangible value and also helps the DAO further the cause of the ecosystem.

DAOs are adding another dimension to the social landscape and redefining how communities work together. Some of the trailblazers leading this charge include @FWBtweets, @KrauseHouseDAO, and @creatorcabins

FWB was created for “creators, rebels, artists, thinkers, and doers”. This mix of artists, developers, and creators led to the formation of many successful projects such as the NFT art gallery that let members display their art to a wider audience.

Krause House is a community for sports enthusiasts. Fans have formed social groups and come together to support their club but they have never received any economic benefits nor have an impact on their team’s operational decisions. #DAO makes this possible.

CabinDAO is aiming to redefine our concept of cities by building a new version that involves separating cities into two distinct layers:
1. The hardware layer - lands, buildings, infrastructure.
2. The software layer - Incorporation, governance and social interaction.

The idea behind this is that if a group of people (nodes) in a network don't agree with decisions made by the rest, they create a new virtual governance layer within the same physical network.

Similarly, if a group of people find the network unsuitable they can easily dissociate and join another network without losing their structure.

In web2 social media platforms, communities cannot be migrated to other platforms as each was an ecosystem of its own that was incompatible with the other and thereby giving us no control over the future of these communities we painstakingly built.

To change this at the macro level, we needed to rethink the entire foundation upon which social media is built. This is the next level frontier of social and it started with @LensProtocol
