Watching reddit model the Tyre Nichols murder in real time has been instructive. #AllCopsAreWhite
A few observations in this thread
1. Unfortunately for redditors, this cannot be a lynching, because the Emmett Till Antilynching Act of 2022 redefines lynching as a lynching that is "bias-motivated."
The officers were Black and so was the victim.
A cautionary tale about legislating ethnonarcissism.
2. In contrast with the Floyd snuff film which depicted Chauvin kneeling on Floyd for too long, this video depicts malice and a far more gruesome disregard for humanity.
The Floyd case was immediately attributed to racism. This murder is attributed to police dysfunction.
3. Many posters are saying this is Rodney King 2.0 and that the similarities are uncanny. Well, except for one crucial variable.
4. Many are focusing on the white cop who was present but did not participate in the beating. This allows for an ethnonarcissistic pivot toward the discussion of white cop privilege.
5. Many are torn about this being captured by law enforcement surveillance tools, because sometimes those are racist and sometimes they aren't.
6. Some are not sure whether this case proves that the system was conspiring against black people because the black cops were swiftly punished, or because the swift response proves that system was fixed by BLM.
7. Blue Line Matters has mysteriously morphed into a multiracial movement. But it's still racist for them to suggest the victim was resisting arrest.
8. White women can find a way to make anything about how awesome they are. White mamma bears are going to protect these black bodies from black cops.
9. Canadians should be banned from the internet, perhaps from the international community in general.
