According to relatives,on January 5, 2022,Isaev tried to drive his car away from the square,but he lost sight of the people in front of him because he bowed his head when a bullet hit the car:the police began to use tear gas and shoot at the demonstrators with rubber bullets.

Nursultan Isaev himself said during the trial: "I was about to drive the car away from the square when the police started shooting. The car runs on liquefied gas. At this time, the bullet hit the windshield of the car, and I was confused and lost control."
