Thread: Here are 5 little-known facts about black history that you will NOT learn about in any #BlackHistoryMonth presentation. For complete references and documentation see my book “The End of Racism.” Buckle up!
1. American slavery didn’t last for “400 years” as the #1619Project and so many others contend. From 1619-1776 America was under British rule. American slavery was 1776-1865, which is 89 years
2. Slaves didn’t build America. The plantations the slaves built were all destroyed in the Civil War. America was built, most of all, by its original European settlers who established its political, economic and moral foundations
3. While the slaves themselves were clearly worse off in America, their descendants are better off. (This fact is obviously relevant to the reparations issue.) Muhammad Ali captured this truth when he said about his roots in Africa, “Thank God my granddaddy got on that boat”
4. Between 1820 and 1860 there were 3500 black slave-owners in America who collectively owned more than 10,000 black slaves. This is a well-documented fact that is nevertheless omitted from all US textbooks
5. Virtually no Republicans owned slaves. Out of 4 million slaves in 1860, historians have found around 10 owned by Republicans. The overwhelming majority of slaves were owned by Democrats, revealing that slavery was not just a regional divide but also a partisan divide
