Across the country and in our federal legislature, Republicans are introducing bills that ban the Democratic Party, give the death penalty to women who get abortions, and abolish key government agencies that protect and defend our national security.
Optimism bias is so powerful I've read diaries from Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto still incapable of believing the scope of Nazi cruelty even after losing their homes, being forced to wall themselves into the ghetto, and while walking over the corpses of starvation victims.
The point is not that Republicans can't pass many of these anti-American policies today. The point is that they aspire to pass them. Republicans represent about half of (voting) America.
Republicans already have the means (total information lock on the political right via their propaganda outlets) and motive (gaslit themselves into believing they face existential threat) to seize total power. All they need is the opportunity (presidency).
