1/ Recently got my hands on some @BellatorMMA data courtesy of BD Sport!

This thread walks through some statistical trends over the last 2 years of Bellator fights.

It also includes some unique #MMA data I haven't seen in the public sphere.

Let's jump in 🧵

2/ @BellatorMMA finish rates in 2021-2022

~1 of every 2 bouts ends via finish

~1 of every 3 bouts ends via KO

~1 of every 5-6 bouts ends via SUB

3/ @BellatorMMA 1st round finish rates in 2021-2022

~1 of every 3-4 bouts ends via 1st round finish

~1 of every 5 bouts ends via 1st round KO

~1 of every 10 bouts ends via 1st round SUB

4/ @BellatorMMA strike type distribution in 2021-2022

BD Sport collects the type of each significant strike landed.

Punches are by far the most frequent landed strike, as expected, while kicks are still fairly common.

Elbows and knees are less prevalent.

5/ @BellatorMMA striking output in 2021-2022

Bellator fighters land ~3.7 significant strikes per minute.

Interestingly, striking output at distance is the same as the overall output.

However, output in the clinch is noticeably higher.

6/ @BellatorMMA fight position distribution in 2021-2022

Over half of Bellator fights take place at distance & roughly one-third of the fights take place on the ground.

Though striking output is highest in the clinch, the vast minority of fight time is spent there.

7/ That’s all for now!

In the future, I'll share additional @BellatorMMA stats insights that illustrate the differences between weight classes.

There’s a lot of cool data here – if you’re a Bellator or #MMA fan, let me know what you’d like to see!
