theres something odd about youth where sex is a primary focus of ones energies but somehow is also regarded with near total levity

young people hold their lives so casually. its remarkable in retrospect

the dissonance gets stronger when you observe that the young nevertheless somehow have the most strident theoretical opinions about sex! sex itself is JUST sex but god forbid you offer a view of it contrary to whatever dogma theyve alighted on

this is a more general phenomenon but its most striking wrt sex

maybe ageing is a sort of transition in viewing things as total lightness to endlessly weighty, something along the lines of kundera

some kind of far mode to near mode too, or maybe from episteme and doxa to gnosis

i think a major issue is that when your young you dont see the downstream impact of everything your doing

you probably cant. even in retrospect, you dont have access to the counterfactuals

but ex ante you havent _felt_ the weight of what comes next

a failure mode is to respond to this by doing nothing

by all means, gather your rosebuds

just understand that its likely to mean something to you someday
