🚨 Read our new report on #hydrogen 🚨

🔴 It shows how it is being used as a Trojan horse to prolong the use of #FossilFuels

✊The EU must scrap its unrealistic H2 targets and increase investment in energy efficiency and just renewables

🚨Behind the hype, this hydrogen push will actually lead to higher CO2 emissions

⛔It’s not because you put the word green in front of #Hydrogen that it becomes climate friendly

👉 Read all about it here: corporateeurope.org/en/GermanysGre…

We found that:

❌100+ German businesses are key players for #GreenHydrogen and many of them have ties to the fossil fuel industry, jumping on the hydrogen bandwagon to lock in harmful infrastructure & production models.

We also found that:

❌ Germany’s hydrogen lobby employs hundreds of lobbyists and successfully spends millions on influencing German politics
❌ From Dec2021 to Sept2022, high-ranking government officials met with gas lobbyists on average once a day

⚠️This comes at a time when more and more experts are warning that an energy economy focused on hydrogen will actually increase emissions.

✊We must stand up against hydrogen and the damage it will cause.

The hydrogen hype ignores some dirty facts:

❎ #1: 99% of today’s globally produced hydrogen is ‘grey’ hydrogen made from fossil fuels, with annual CO2 emissions exceeding those of the entire country of Germany.

👉 Here: corporateeurope.org/en/GermanysGre…

❎ #2: Fossil-based ‘blue’ hydrogen, which is being promoted as a ‘low-carbon’ alternative, has a climate footprint that is nearly as bad as grey hydrogen when its total emissions are taken into account.

👉 Here: corporateeurope.org/en/GermanysGre…

❎ #3: Even ‘green’ hydrogen (considered ‘carbon free’ but accounted for only 0.04% of global production), is risky:
- It is energy inefficient
- Behaves as a potent indirect greenhouse gas
- Production on a large scale requires vast amounts of land, water & renewable energy

🤜🤛It is time that social justice and climate movements stand up against project hydrogen and the damage it will likely cause to communities and the planet.
