There are certain hills I won't die on when it comes to fanservice. For instance, if the design is better than the original, or fits the new direction. My line is when it's just an obvious attempt to cover up because the creators are spineless and unimaginative.

The Tomb Raider reboots lies about Lara eventually becoming her OG counterpart. The devs show nothing but apathy for the OG fans and are actively desexualizing a sexual character. The is what creative censorship actually looks like.

Juri's design in Street Fighter V was bad, even without the censorship. This was on top of her personality being significantly softening and her gameplay changing to reflect that. SF6 brought back the insanely and chaos of the character which was better reflected in her design.

Killer Instinct is a bit complicated, since the reboot does a range of changes to the OG ladies. Out of the all the original characters, Kim is the only one that is a genuine upgrade. Orchid and Maya are just completely different characters in both design and story. (1/2)

Which is odd because the devs first original female character was Sadira. Who, out of all the original females from the reboot, is the most sexual. So it's really weird how Maya and Orchid weren't given a similar treatment. Or at least write them better. (2/2)

Jill's design was so stark in the RE3 remake was because Capcom pussed out. They've already shown they can stay true to original designs while updating them in RE2. But they didn't even try to update Jill's iconic design. Which can also be said for RE3 as a whole. Waste.

If you thought Cammy's new design was a sign of censorship or a downgrade, you're insane. And haven't been playing attention to the game at all.

Millia Rage's new design is league's better than her old design. Not that the old design was bad. But it definitely clashed with the dark tone of her story. Which ironically has a lighter tone in the newer games. Still an appropriate evolution in design and story.

Out of all of Aysne's costumes, her normal Shinobi gear actually always looks better. Everything else is trying too hard to be different, though admittedly very cute. The contrast between her dark clothes and bright hair is a better representation of her character.

Mortal Kombat 11 pulled the practicality card for the redesign of there female characters. But the most damning is Skarlet, who needs to bathe in blood for her powers to work. Her redesign was the most impractical for her character.
