The Making of an NPC

A thread 🧵

First, let’s define what an NPC is and explain the NPC meme.

NPC stands for Non-Player Character and is a reference to video game characters that have a limited dialogue tree.

Games like Skyrim were notorious for having NPCs with limited but hilarious dialogue trees.

The NPC meme originates back in 2016 when an anonymous 4chan user submitted a thread titled "Are You an NPC?" to the /v/ (video games) board, which referred to people who "autonomously follow group thinks and social trends" as "NPCs".

Effectively, NPC can be defined as someone who does not think for themselves but instead outsources their thoughts, their beliefs and their behaviors to the hivemind.

NPCs always care a lot about the “Current Thing”. Until the next one comes along. Their identity usually morphs alongside the current thing.

The central question is, where do these people come from and how do people become NPCs? That is what I will attempt to tackle today.

Firstly, we must clarify the difference between a male NPC and a female NPC because they are not the same. By nature women are much more aware and concerned with social trends. There are legitimate biological reasons for this and so for today we will be focusing on male NPCs.

A helpful way to think about this is if we change “Groupthink” to “Tribethink”.

Tribethink has served as a positive characteristic of human nature over time

If you think about it, you really don’t want the women & lower status men deviating from the values & goals of the tribe

In my last thread we covered the basic two types of men in society and how their relationship with violence will determine what kind of man they are.

Ultimately the end result of what I covered in my last thread is men who can defend themselves and men who cannot.

A man who cannot defend himself is not able to parse information freely. He has to parse information through the filter of “will others be okay with me thinking this”. Whereas a man who can defend himself is free to parse information with a filter of “is this true”

This is one of the reasons that physiognomy never lies. A man with powerful physiognomy is a man who can defend himself and therefore is a man who can think independently.

Back to the NPC. Given that the NPC is running all of his beliefs through the filter of “is it okay for me to think this” they will inevitably only believe the consensus of the group.

Since they are predisposed to vulnerability, as a defence mechanism, they will be sure to make it known to the group that they are very much in favor of the current thing.

This is why NPCs are often the most strident and loudest foot soldiers for the dominant social movement

So is there a cure? Yes & no. Some are too far gone, others we can save.

First we must fix the physiognomy, he must go to the gym & improve his physique.

Secondly, we must teach him how to defend himself. Once his vulnerability washes away. He will be free to think for himself
