🚨 #SUDAN WAR DIARIES

A 22-year-old woman who fled Khartoum on a bus last night (23 April 2023) described her experience to us.

1. She explained how her and her family left Khartoum after the internet blackout and they feared that they would die without anyone knowing since their neighbourhood has been deserted.

She said phone and internet signal returned immediately upon leaving Khartoum.

2. On her bus journey out of Khartoum, she said that she witnessed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) defeating the army in Khartoum, Bahri and Omdorman.

3. On the bus she escaped Khartoum on, she said she met a man who alleged that the army rather than the RSF is responsible for freeing Islamists from prison.

4. As for travel advice for those also considering leaving Khartoum, she suggested that escaping within Sudan rather than going to the border with Egypt is relatively safer.

5. She also hinted at organisers of the bus journeys out of Khartoum exploiting the desperation of the internally displaced. However, she conceded their greed is understandable given the uncertainty that the state of war has created.
