So here’s the detailed day by day itinerary of my recent Sikkim trip. So much to explore in this beautiful state. We covered Gangtok, Lachung and Pelling. Day trips from each place. So we had a flight from Mumbai to Bagdogra (West Bengal) which is the nearest airport. I took an early morning flight (about 3 hrs duration) as the road journey to Gangtok is about 4-5 hours and we wanted to reach by evening latest. We had lunch on the way. Next morning we were planned for local Gangtok sightseeing. Bakthang waterfalls, Institute of Tibetology, Chorten stupa. Some local fruits🍍 on the way too!

Then we went to the Hanuman Tok. Beautiful temple and we had clouds welcoming us. The temple is maintained by the Indian army. There’s a nice stall near the parking selling tea and some snacks too.

Next morning we started for the Nathula pass. A permit is required 1-2 days prior which is arranged by the local agents arranging the taxi. Have a look at the discipline on the roads! On the way back we halted at the Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial and then the Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changgu Lake. Picturesque. There are Yak rides available there and also a ropeway, which we skipped as it was raining.

Next morning was a visit to the Yumthang valley. We didn’t get to see the famous rhododendron flowers due to extended winters. Still very beautiful with the river passing by the valley. There were yaks strolling around too!

Then we went further up to the zero point, it was pretty cold and windy there with some hint of a snowfall.

Then after lunch in hotel, we started back to Gangtok. We skipped the famous Gurudongmar lake as we had our little one and were told less than 8-10 years will not get the permit. We reached Pelling in the afternoon and there were the beautiful snow clad Kanchenjunga mountains welcoming us. And yes, dal-chawal after a long journey! Three was an option of going to Namchi en route, which we skipped.

Then we visited the orange 🍊 garden- no oranges but a beautiful river with chilled waters to relax your feet in.
