State of Origin 2023 game 1 - NSW attacking analysis
NSW attack was atrocious, with Cleary & Luai being the main culprits. All that possession & good position was badly undermined by the worst high-profile passing duo in the NRL.
“Penrith connection” was the reason NSW lost.
Cleary spent all night, either abandoning his side of the field, or going to the other side of the field to ruin NSW attacks.
And I want to emphasise, Brad Fitter has said many times - the more Cleary get his hands on the ball, the better.
That is factually wrong.
Penrith connection getting it wrong in defense for QLD 2nd try.
Hudson-Young covered his runner, but Luai got dragged in when he didn’t need to, and that cause the overlap.
PS Can I just say QLD passing attack was much better than NSW. E
Just look how far Luai passes from the defensive line. Is Draw & pass even a concept that he understands ?
Sure Cleary, when you’re back-line to set up nicely, & the QLD centre Hammer is all the way in field next to the posts, you supposed to ignore all that space and take a run yourself that goes nowhere. 🤡
Luai/Crichton bombs an easy try. To’o is all by himself & could’ve strolled over & had a picnic before he scored.
Penrith “connection” strikes again. Knock-on
Sorry Penrith fans, I blame Fittler far more than I blame Penrith players, & To’o doesn’t deserved much blame at all
As clueless as it gets from Luai.
Luai ignores the short side raid, just so he can pass back inside to his Penrith connection teammate Yeo. Problem is that Munster was there to easily shut it down.
How that Penrith connection going Brad Fittler ?
Oh My. Oh why.
Cleary is COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS to how far infield the Hammer is, and then proceeds to do the opposite of what he should do and passes it back inside to even more QLD defenders.
DROP CLEARY & LUAI IMMEDIATELY.
Cleary keeps abandoning his side of the field, to go to the other side of the field and wreck even more NSW attacks.
Fittler should be happy.
No draw & pass, ignores the 1 man advantage, takes a run himself. 🤢
Hammer is standing next to the posts.
Frizell & Turbo standing still in a ton of space…..Yeo ruins an easy try by taking a run ! How may vomit emojis 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
Also, WHERE IS NATHAN CLEARY ???
Cleary massively bombs an easy try.
Turbo is running into a huge gap, which Cleary completely ignores.
Cleary then leaves the back pass way too late, making the pass inaccurate, with Teddy needing to stand still to catch it.
Then Teddy the Hog ruins an easy try by not passing.
Oh that Penrith connection again baby. Paying so many dividends. That 10-0 scoreline to QLD is a mirage. Just ask Fittler how quality is far less important than “‘connections” 🤡
Luai ignores an open To’o. Does a silly vision-less short ball instead.
Dummy throws a dummy that wouldn’t fool a dummy. Then throws a bad pass that ruins the attack.
Turning it back inside into the most Queensland defenders is the most Nathan Cleary thing ever.
I would have dropped Cleary from the whole Origin series at the 1st game half time break.
Addo-Carr has already been robbed of 2 tries at least & clueless Cleary is still not aware that this chance ever happened…..then he throws an awful pass.
How hasn’t this ended his origin?
I’m loving this Penrith connection. Queenslanders would be loving it too.
Hudson-Young goes for a short side run, with Luai left for dead & no way near in support.
That must be Hudson-Young’s fault, cuz he doesn’t play Fitters favourite team - Penrith.
Cleary is oblivious as it gets.
The Hammer is so far infield on the 4th tackle, & Cleary has no clue, idea, vision, observation.
Clearly doesn’t call for the ball to attack, cuz he has no idea of the chance in front of him.
Cleary with a predetermined pass to Teddy that Queensland swallows up, because Cleary made it obvious.
Yeo spent all night wrecking NSW attack with his passing. At least. Murry is a far better link player, & Murry does a good job dragging in defenders….but that doesn’t matter because he doesn’t play for Penrith.
Ignoring the left side numbers advantage.
Look how condensed Queensland line is, so Teddy takes a run into that line of defenders.
Cleary to Yeo, Yeo to the ground. Le Magnificent.
Cleary Abandoning his right side, just to go to the left side to kick the ball 🤢.
If you were wondering why Addo-Carr had such a quiet game. now you know.
You come here for some level of honesty & observation, instead of the clueless 🤡 in the media.
Look how far back the QLD defence is.
Why is Crichton ignoring that, & running back inside ?
Why is this “Penrith connection” making me want to cry ?
Again, I blame Fittler most of all.
To’o your good. Luai, Cleary & Crichton….no thanks.
Is Cleary serious ? Look how far from the defensive line he passes the ball.
Any Luai ball over the top or in behind the QLD winger that came in to far, & NSW had a decent chance to score. But even with Turbo hands, that’s took time away & let QLD cover.
Bunker ignored Muster doing a block on Turbo.
But QLD probably got robbed with the sin-bin in the 2nd half.
Didn’t watch the tackle closely to be sure.
Why on gods earth did Cleary choose to ignore all that space on his right, to run into the closest Queensland defender.
Inexplicable garbage.
All of That NSW abomination was just in the first half.
I’ll be back in a few hours for the 2nd half.
Fittler the 🤡 picking so many bad players, means that he wastes my time with longer Twitter threads, cuz i have to cover all these clowns.
So annoying.
