State of Origin 2023 game 1 - NSW attacking analysis
NSW attack was atrocious, with Cleary & Luai being the main culprits. All that possession & good position was badly undermined by the worst high-profile passing duo in the NRL.
“Penrith connection” was the reason NSW lost.
Cleary spent all night, either abandoning his side of the field, or going to the other side of the field to ruin NSW attacks.
And I want to emphasise, Brad Fitter has said many times - the more Cleary get his hands on the ball, the better.
That is factually wrong.

Nathan Cleary Game 3 State of Origin attacking analysis.
Another disastrous display from one of the most visionless halves in Origin history.
Cleary’s usual effort & Kicking game… is no substitute for his horrible lack of vision & creativity… which ruins countless attacks
PS.
If I was to do a full thread, it would be about Fittler getting a much deserved long overdue sucking
Luai never deserve to be picked & was bad for 3 games.
Martin the same, but it’s more about how ineffective he is.
Crichton not good enough.
Burton at centre is useless….

Here is evidence of Nathan Cleary have one of the worst attacking performances for a halfback in Origin history - Game 3 2020.
But it’s mostly not his fault NSW lost, because he has never been that kind of player. It’s Coach Fittler’s fault for picking him and dropping Keary
QLD have 6 players - half their Defending team - in the middle occupying 15 m of space, but Cleary with zero vision turns the ball back on the inside. Total waste of attack and open NSW players.
