Denis Irwin signed for the Reds #OnThisDay in 1990, and he went on to become one of Sir Alex Ferguson's most significant signings.
Here's how and why Denis's name is ingrained into United folklore... 🧵

🇮🇪 One of the modern United greats, Denis’s career was one of steady progression to the biggest stage for club and country – where he proved a natural, if often underrated performer, offering sterling service at left-back, with a keen eye for goal.
🤝 Irwin joined from Oldham in 1990, and during his maiden campaign with the Reds, secured his first of 13 winners' medals, as United lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup.
🏆 It was the following season where Denis really established himself — he was an ever-present as United won the inaugural Premier League, chipping in with five goals.
He was United’s solitary ever-present during the double-winning campaign of 1993/94, and was a key figure as we repeated the feat in 1996 🙌🏆🏆
😍 Irwin was a key cog in our 1999 Treble, and although he missed the FA Cup final, he started during the famous win against Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp.
Denis passed 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ United appearances in 2001, sporting the armband on his landmark appearance against Leicester City, before being handed the armband again for the final day fixture, where he lifted his seventh Premier League 👏
🏆 The left-back, who was equally as comfortable on the right, left Old Trafford in May 2002 with 13 winner’s medals and 529 appearances to his name, which currently places him 10th position in our all-time appearance holders.
