πŸ“£ Day 10: Gender Ideology in UK Schools 🌈

We're off to Brighton, the pride capital of the UK, the San Francisco of England. Brace yourselves, folks, because we're about to witness the grand unveiling of gender ideology at Brighton College!

Thread Alert! πŸ‘‡ #PrideMonth

Put your hands together everyone!

@BrightonCollege is a distinguished co-educational school in Brighton, England, offering education for students aged 3 to 18. The college was honoured as England's Independent School of the Year in 2019 by The Sunday Times. @educationgovuk

Since 2006, Richard Cairns has been serving as the headmaster of Brighton College. He was recognised as UK Head of the Year at the 2022 Tatler Schools Awards.

Brighton College encourages activism and inclusivity, demonstrated by their historic achievement as the first school in UK history to participate with a float in a pride parade.

Experience the mesmerising dance performances of Brighton College's pupils at the magical Brighton Pride 2017. Inspired by a visit from actor and Stonewall ambassador Sir Ian McKellen, the college made the decision to participate in the parade.

In 2016, Brighton College gained attention for its progressive approach when Headteacher Mr. Cairns made changes to the uniform policy to support transgender pupils.

Mr. Cairns believed in respecting students' true identities, leading to policy changes. He prioritised their well-being and happiness, recognising that some may identify with a different gender from their assigned birth gender.

In 2018, nearby Dorothy Stringer School reported 40 children identifying outside their assigned birth sex, along with 36 identifying as 'gender fluid'. The specific number at Brighton College is unclear. rb.gy/iu2tw

Surrey, Kent, and Sussex, including Brighton, reportedly referred more children to the NHS gender service than Greater London. A Brighton teacher said: 'What's happening is worrying and many of us know it, but nobody wants to speak up and get shot.'

Brighton and Hove council advises schools to treat children's trans identity as confidential and presents gender identity as fact in their Trans Inclusion Toolkit 2021, developed with the Allsorts Youth Project.

While Brighton College does not explicitly mention its collaboration with the Allsorts Youth Project, it does state its engagement with external speakers and includes the term "Allsorts" alongside the Gender Identity topic and in relation to Staff Training.

Despite the school's assertion of teaching factually accurate and evidence-based RSE information, there is evidence indicating their use of speakers and resources from the Allsorts Youth Project, which are recognised for promoting an ideological perspective.

Brighton College still actively participates in Brighton's Pride celebrations every August, while maintaining a relatively publicly reserved approach to other LGBTQ-related teachings. Exciting times ahead for 2023!🌈
