Many Twitter (X) users noticed accounts that popped up recently having 🔻 emoji used either in Twitter names or in the comment section

This is Hamas’ insignia and whoever uses it wants you to know they are specifically pro-Hamas supporters

Let’s talk about it

A thread 🧵👇🏼 1/

Initially the emoji was used by Hamas early in the ground offensive (early November) to show propaganda videos of Hamas members shooting RPG at Israeli tanks & soldiers

Usually the videos zoomed in & provided a clearer image of a target, signified by pointing this 🔻 3 times 2/

Immediately after it was used by Hamas and its Al Qassam Brigades in their propaganda posters, it was then picked up by various western pro-Hamas accounts on many social networks who weaved this 🔻 in their posts, like you see it below

Also major pro-Palestinian (or pro-Hamas specifically) accounts (to name a few, Syrian Girl, the Mint Press, for example) followed and started to spread it all over adding significance and meaning to it. Read by @RamzyBaroud:

Simultaneously Hamas itself through affiliated telegram channels began to use this 🔻 more and more and referenced it to the red triangle on the Palestinian 🇵🇸 flag, as may be seen in the end of this video

Various arts appeared that peddle the same idea as part of the flag

At this point this symbol is fully associated with Hamas and used by its allies (in Iran, Yemen & Bahrain as you may see below), like Z & V letters from current Russian war against Ukraine or Nazi swastika. Btw, we will see how Nazis are also connected to this matter later

6/

It became a symbol of current war, strongly associated with Hamas & its activities to the degree that even a pro-Hamas Spanish minister dropped her Palestinian flag in bio in favor of only Hamas 🔻

This is before and after criticism from the UN Watch

7/

For some reason large accounts in Spain with millions of followers think it is absolutely normal to openly support Hamas

8/

Cherry on top. Inadvertently (or maybe deliberately) Hamas utilized a symbol that has historical connection to Nazism, bigotry antisemitism and homophobia - it was used by Nazi Germany as a concentration badge of shame

Bottom line: 🔻 is a major 🚩
