Karthik, a student of Class 10th was paralyzed following rabies vaccination

Karthik had been scratched by a cat, following which he was vaccinated with the first dose of rabies vaccine in January 2023. He experienced fever and exhaustion after 2nd dose, and doctors recommended a 3rd dose despite him facing issues after 2nd dose despite his impaired speech. Following 3rd dose, he was paralyzed - diagnosed as cervical myelitis.

A 61-year-old woman suffered paralysis after being administered rabies vaccine at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Alappuzha.
Shanthamma received the vaccine following a rabbit bite on October 21. She is at present in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the MCH and is undergoing treatment for anaphylactic shock.
Her family has filed a complaint with the Ambalappuzha police alleging medical negligence. The complaint notes that the woman developed an allergic reaction following a test dose of the vaccine. Despite the allergy, medical staff proceeded with the full vaccination dose, the complaint states.
